Board downtime recently

I have a question for the staff that I don't want to ask in the thread about behavior. I have heard from several members that the recent downtime was because of the behavior... sort of a "punishment" to "teach us a lesson" to appreciate BB more and be more respectful? I have learned in my life not to believe everything people say, especially when they're upset and I think some people may have jumped to conclusions... but if this is true, I would like to know. Even if it's just partially true.

Also, I was wondering what everyone is complaining about with the alcohol censorship? This question is less important but I don't understand what's going on and it's really frustrating to me because my friends are upset and I don't know what's going on.

No, the down time was not about behavior. I had to run some scripts to clean up the database that would take hours at a time and pretty much bring the server to a standstill, so I just closed the boards so there was less chance of data getting corrupted and because it would be pretty frustrating to try to use the board at that time.

Honestly, we edited a post or two from caitaintdead where she was talking about being hammered, which we put in the rules because it was making a LOT of members feel uncomfortable especially in the dorms (I was getting a lot of pm's and emails about how people didn't want to go in the dorms anymore because there was so much talk about being really wasted and stuff). She was doing it a lot, and we let a bunch of them go, but after a while we edited her posts.

From other pm's we got, it sounds like some people got the idea that we made her change her signature or something, but that's not true. IIRC she was told it was fine to talk about having a beer, but talking about being so wasted you can't stand up was a little too much.

Yes. That answered both my questions. Thank you very much. And another thing I want to say to you guys in private is that I honestly think you all are doing a pretty darn good job. This forum has been around for 9 years and forums don't get that old unless the staff knows what they're doing. I did not think the post about behavior was stepping over a line and I personally have not felt scared to PM a mod or administrator or open a thread here. There is always room for improvement because nothing in life is ever perfect, but I think you guys are doing a pretty good job with what you've got.

And I realize that looks like I am sucking up, but I'm not. I just wanted to let you guys know what I'm feeling without being judged by some other members... I think some of them don't realize how amazing the staff of this board is. I mean, even when I've gotten PMs telling me to tone down or be more respectful, they were respectful. You, the staff of this board, respects us, the members. And that is something that I value very much. So thank you.
