Fox’s Bones will be getting a final chapter. The network has renewed the long-running comedic procedural for a 12-episode farewell 12th season. Stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel have closed deals to return as the series’ leading duo of Booth and Brennan. Also set to come back as showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson who took the reins of the show this season.

I hear the plan for a final season of Bones was put in motion in the first week of February when producing studio 20th Century Fox TV sent out offers to stars Boreanaz and Deschanel for a 12-episode 12th season. (Both actors’ current contracts are up at the end of Season 11). There was an almost immediate positive feedback from both actors, paving the way to a renewal. And after spending a couple of weeks buttoning up other aspects of the deal, the network is proceeding with the pickup, which will bring Bones‘ episode tally to 246 to rank as one of Fox’s longest-running series ever.

“In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it’s comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability. Apparently, that beacon is Bones,” said creator and executive producer Hart Hanson. “It just shows what you can do with an amalgam of genius cast, amazing crew, cunning writers, stalwart studio, sweat, a tough economy, a mercurial network, determination, luck, magic, miracles and the most loyal audience in the world.”

“This is for the fans!,” Boreanaz said. “Thank you to everyone at Fox and of course Dana and Gary – for all your support. Thank you to Hart, Stephen, Ian, Michael and Jonathan. Also to the crew and cast for their countless support along the way! And I couldn’t have done it without you, Emily!”

Added Deschanel, “I am thrilled the show will have the ending it deserves for all of our amazing, loyal fans!.”

With a 12-episode final season, “we can give the show, characters and fans the end they so richly deserve,” Collier and Peterson said. “Also knowing there is a Season 12, we can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible – one we hope will leave our fans excited for what’s to come in this final season of Bones.

I love Bones and I'm glad it's getting one more series. I can't believe it's been on for 11 seasons so far.

Only a 12 episode Season? We're seeing that more and more lately. It's what they used to use as summer replacements until the REAL series returned in the fall. They should start calling them miniseries

Lol, my first thought was "dear ord, just let it die", but then it was many moons ago since I gave up on this series. But who needs a "12-episode farewell"? I'm feeling like there's going to be a lot of cheeziness, tears and group hugs involved... Cookie cutter sweet enough to rot your teeth.

The show that just keeps on going.....

As many times as they thought the show was going to end and tied up loose ends, I'm mildly interested to see what they'll do this time around when it's really ending.

I love the supporting cast, so once the series is over and on Netflix I'll probably get around to finishing it.

I loved Bones but have not seen season 10 or 11. I'm glad it's finally ending and iis only going to be 12 episodes. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

I used to watch the Show but stoped after Season 9. Wonder if they going to push way too much into the last season ?

Wasn't there an announcement last year about how S11 was supposed to be the final season? And there was speculation the year before that S10 was gonna be the last. And there was rumors that DB wasn't going to come back for S10/11. I'm so done with this show.

The cross over with Sleepy Hollow killed whatever remaining affection I had for this show.

S11 is when their contracts ran out. They've resigned for S12, their final year.

Nothing official but there were rumors about it being the final season several times. And the writers even went with it a couple times and tied up loose ends so that the show could have ended. It's the show that just won't end. Haha
Season 11 episode 4 also had Tom Lenk appear as well. It's like, just like Castle, there bringing in actors from previous shows that the main actors have worked on to try and improve ratings.

After what's just happened with one of my favourite characters I'm really not looking forward to up coming episodes. I just think it's a pointless storyline that's ruined two characters.

What? I've not seen it in ages but curious as to what you are referring to.

I absolutely adored Bones, the storylines and characters were rich and subversive. Actually, I wrote one of my final papers on the Pilot last year! Around season 8-9 I stopped watching it. One day I had nothing to watch and cleaning to do so I half heartedly caught up on the show while doing other things. That's probably how I'll end the series as well.

Something has to be said for a show like Firefly that gets to maintain one untarnished wonderful season.

Only ever seen one episode and it didn't really appeal to me. Think I would give it another watch. But 12 seasons sounds at least three or four too many.

I'm sorry, but this show is so incredibly stupid lol

Mr. Pole: OH!! speaking of stupid. You still watching Sleepy Hollow? Is the death real?

I have been, but not consistently. I was just sort of getting back into it a little bit, and then the death happened. And it seems real. And since that was my fav character, next to the one that's no longer even on the show, I am probably going to stop now.

Bones was great up until about season 7. I was ticked when they killed off Vincent

Where is the chemistry between Booth and Brennan? The only chemistry seems to be in a spectrometer. And sorry Brennan but your voice is one of the more irritating ones for a co-star.

My beef with it is that Brennan is just too clueless. It's not believable.

That, and in the beginning Booth and the rest of the cast always had to explain references to her because she didn't "get them" but in the last several seasons she does now all of a sudden.
