I'm new to reading Buffy novels, but I received these two old ones as a gift from a friend who picked them up at a car boots sale, and I was wondering if anyone knows much about them, or thinks either of them may be worth a read? I don't want to get into reading them unless I think it might be worthwhile.

While I haven't read Immortal (I think), Book of Fours is definitely worth a read. Aside from minor discrepancies, it could have made a good two-parter for the show.

The Book of Fours is an excellent read. It probably ranks in my top five Buffy novels, I've read it at least ten times.

There are a few canon issues that are glaringly obvious to die-hard fans like us, for example, it's set in S3, but Faith's still on Buffy's side, Cordelia and Xander are still together, and there's no mention of Wesley or the Mayor. But it's a good story, so it's easy enough to over-look those.

As for Immortal, I think I've only read that once, and while I liked it, thought it was a good read and a good story, I think I found it a little bit over-complicated at the time, so I didn't bother to hang onto it. But I did enjoy the story.

If you're looking for a book to read from the BtVS novels, try The Lost Slayer. It is not only my favorite of the BtVS novels, but it's one of my all time favorite books ever. The plot is simply amazing, and it has the best bad guy I've ever come across. Again, it has some canon issues, set in S4, but Cordelia (I think) and Angel are still around, but that has more to do with the story and plot than the author not caring about canon. Fantastic read, I really recommend it.

Oh, I LOVE The Lost Slayer! Haven't read those in ages.
Thanks, I think I'll give Book of Fours a go then and try and allow for the canon discrepancies, and have a look to see if I can get hold of the Lost Slayer 🙂

The Lost Slayer was originally published as a four book series, but it's since been collected into one large volume. Just in case you find one book and it ends up being part 3 or something, lol. TRUST ME, this is NOT a book you want to be spoiled for.

That's why you know me the bestest! :p
I've read them both, actually Immortal was the first Buffy book I read and I must say, it is still one of my favourites. Reading it you'll notice some interesting parallel's with S5. 🙂

Oh, I actually knew that. About Immortal being the first BtVS book you read. But I thought I was making it up, lol

Agreed. It was a while ago that I read Book of Fours but I remember really enjoying it so I would recommend it 🙂

Immortal I haven't read.

I've The Book of Fours, it's probably one of my favourite Buffy books

The Book of Fours has some inconsistencies that bother me, but all in all, I love it. I have it right now, and I'm almost done. It's really good. I could see it being a few episodes.

Just found the Immortal in a charity shop as well as part 1-3 of the Lost Slayer, but I won't begin that until I find part 4
