Same here, TKAMB is one of the best books I've read ^^ Are you reading Diary Of a Young Girl online? If so, would you please send a link? I remember reading something similar to this, but I don't think it was the original.

I have the book and it is in Dutch. Unless you speak Dutch and can transport to this tiny country I won't be much help. I am sure it is available somewhere as an ebook 😉

Speaking of classics, any chance you've read Of Mice and Men? I have been wanting to read it for awhile but I'm unsure

Oh, yes! Probably the best book that I read for school. Really liked it. Way more accessible than the Kafka stuff I had to read for my German class. Not that Kafka is bad, but it certainly can be horrible for a 16-year-old who *has* to read it.

If you want something historical and a must read. Then read Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. I am currently re-reading the original (in Dutch) with all of the diary entries. There are three different versions in total. I am reading the unedited version.

I second this rec, btw. Have read it a dozen times, starting when I was a child, it's an amazing read and the history is just phenomenal. Visited her house on a vacation to Amsterdam ages ago and it brought back memories of reading the book 🙂

No One Belongs Her More Than You is a series of sweet though sometimes quite savage short stories by Miranda July.

This following quote from "Majesty" made me burst out laughing at work. It is a story about a depressed woman in love with Prince Harry who has a sister that likes to brag about her sexual escapades over the phone.

"And then my sister paused to to listen to the sound of my breath over the phone. She could hear that I was done, I had come. So she said goodbye and we hung up. It was this way between us; it has always been this way. She has always taken care of me like this. If I could quietly kill her without anyone knowing, I would."

Miranda July is super gorgeous. I only read books by beautiful authors.

Girl I tried really hard to hahaha. I finished the first one and just couldn't take it anymore. Its a shame because I love the series but I think watching it first has ruined the books.

Well I'm intrigued!! That sounds pretty messed up to me!!

Oh god thank you for telling me! I've had this banner for ages but it stopped working for some reason and I tried fixing it today on my phone and you can never tell how big something is on your phone haha! I'll see if I can fix it...

Gulag Archipelago. It's nonfiction and written by a WW2 Soviet artillery gunner that was sent to a Gulag for dubious reasons. A very chilling chronicle of how easily people could be sent to a Gulag, which millions were. It became a "state within a state," as the author describes it, an archipelago of prisons, each its own island. I read that this book is required reading in many Russian schools now. I cannot recommend it enough, even if you aren't that interested in Soviet history -- this is a very well written, well researched, and important book written by someone who had to experience it.

For unexpected plot twists - or rather an unexpected twisted plot - try Lanark: a life in 4 books by Alasdair Gray. It's divided into four books: however it begins with book 3 , ends with book 4 while books 1 and 2 nest in the middle. The prologue appears between books 3 and 1; the epilogue occurs four chapters from the end and there's an interlude between books 1 and 2. It's part realist novel and part Sci-Fi but actually might be neither. The main protagonist might be two protagonist or he might be the author. Oh...and it's got pictures in it. 1982 Janine and Poor Things by the same author are also good. Note - they may be an acquired taste.

For sad and moving (plus a Pulitzer and Nobel prize) try Toni Morrison - Morrison is why Gutenberg invented the printing press. If a caveman and an astronaut met the latter would thank the former for the first grunt because language culminates in Morrison. In fact, I'd go as far to say all other books should be scrapped - we only need Morrison. Beloved, Jazz and Song of Solomon are my favourites. Bluest Eye is the "lightest" read. The end of Jazz is the finest prose ever set down in English. I'm not even bothering with IMO - this is FACT.

Otherwise, Kate Atkinson has never written a bad book. Deceptively easy to read but twisting all over the place. Her Jackson Brodie novels were televised with Jason Isaacs in the main role. This can only be a GOOD thing.

Did I mention I liked Morrison? 🙂

I am halfway through an amazing book called Air by Geoff Ryman. It is about a woman named Mae, protecting her village from the destructive forces of globalism. I just burst out laughing at this amazing comeback. Mae's husband confronts her about her infidelity. "Whore," he says to her. She responds, "Whores do it for money. I did if for love." I can't explain why, but that just spoke to me. Great book. Read! Read! Read!
