James Herbet and Shuan Hutson are, in my opinion the best horror writers of the last 50 years. Oh and i like Edgar Allan Poe.
 
Martin Cruz Smith's "Gorky Park" is totally awesome. I remember reading that in the 8th Grade. Also, Stoker's "Dracula" and Tom Clancy's "Hunt for Red October. And let's not forget Freddy Foresyte's "Day of the Jackal." Since reading those, I haven't fun a match...
 
I just love Dan Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars. His prose is full of poeticism, Also, Vladimir Nabokov is excellent, so anything by him. Of course the first-person classic J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise. Henry James' The Wings of the Dove. I could probably go on forever.
 
Anything! I read anything. lol. From something like The Lovely Bones to the Buffy books, to Vampire books, to realistic teen books. I love to read and I'll read anything that seems to appeal to me.😀
 
Brave New World, 1984, and anything by Raymond Chandler is wonderful. I can't forget Shakespeare of course. One of my favorites is Macbeth. I could drone on forever about excellent science fiction novels, or the classics for that matter. 😀

JenniLou, I read Snow Falling on Cedars several years ago and I absolutely loved it! It's one of my favorites. The language is so beautiful and the story so elegantly told. 🙂
 
Oh, yeah, queenofbuffdom86, I forgot Shakespeare--my favorite is Twelfth Night:

Nope. For me it is either "Macbeth"--"Is this a dagger I see before me?" or "Henry V"--"We few. We happy few. We band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me today, shall be my brother!" Or, of course, another favorite, "Julius Caesar"--"Cry Havoc!! And let slip the dogs of war!"

A gal with good taste 😀. 1984 is my fave book. I think Orwell was extremely clever how he constructed his vision of the future. I'm not too keen on Brave New World, but it was a good read. I also like anything by Stephen King, James Herbert or Dean Koontz. Oh, and the Dune series of books by Frank Herbert. Could list loads of books to be honest...but I'm tired and need some sleep 😛
 
Very clever, indeed. I think his vision was shaped by the fact that he was an avid socialist (not to be confused with totalitariansim, to which he was opposed). Orwell is a master visionist. What I find odd is how accurate his insight was because he died in, I think it was 1951--or somwhere around there--before the Cold War and what have you. A very wise man.
 
I'm not a huge reader, but if something really interests me I'll definitely read it. I don't have any favorite authors, or books. But I am currently reading The Great Train Robbery for school; it's a summer reading that we have to do. At first I didn't think I'd be able to get through it, but it's turning out to be a really good read. Has anybody else read it? And I also started reading Of Saints and Shadows by Christopher Golden, but I haven't finished it yet because I'm the slowest reader ever.🙄 Devil Hearts and Angel Souls and Of Masques and Martyrs are the two other books of The Shadow Saga. I bought the first two, but I still have to get the last one. Anyway, that's about it.
 
My favorite book is 'Lord of the Rings' Tolkien was by far one of the best authors that ever lived. His vision of Middle Earth and the languages he created are just genius. The three installments of this book are just amazing in my opinion, there are very few people I know that disagree about this trilogy.

Oh, I forgot Dune! I loved that book! The plot was what made it so unforgettable. I LOVE that book! 😀

Such a shame Frank Herbert died before he could finish his saga...I'm dying to know how it all ends!
 
I love to read Cate Tiernan's series called Sweep it is an awsome series even if it is written for younger people its really not for them. I also love to read L.J Smith and my favourite auther of all time Barbra Michaels my favourite books of here's would be The Master of Black Tower which is my favourite and then Ammie, Come Home.... She is awsome at writting mysteries.
I love to read books about the supernatural such as vampires and witches mostly. I also love reading mysteries and alittle stuff to do with soulmates is good.

Brian Herbert wrote three prequels to Dune with Kevin Anderson. I have read them and although I found them enjoyable, they didn't have the same...errrm....plot intricacies as the original novels. I think thats a good way of putting it. The detail just wasn't there that Frank Herbert put into his novels. Still three good books though, just not comparable to the originals in my opinion.
