Books that disappointed you!

It's Kafka on the Shore, by the way. Not read that one but I do think Dance Dance Dance is his best novel.

I love Douglas Coupland but he has a lot of disappointing reads too. The Gum Thief, Shampoo Planet, etc.
 
Could anyone here give some idea on Good Omens?

I finished it but don't know how to feel about it yet. It's mildly funny most of the time, hysterically funny occasionally, and has a half-baked parody to the biblical apocalypse, which was half serious and half dismissive.

Why is this one rated so high? Did I miss some points? I'm very unconfident about this...
 
American Gods - Neil Gaiman.

I tried but I just couldn't even finish it. I haven't tried his other books, but I do love his graphic novels.
 
The Bible. The ending was good but way too much backstory and worldbuilding. It really bogged the book down. The middle parts were okay, and the ending tried to make up for the slow beginning but, as a whole I was somewhat disappointed.

Kafka is a very hard person to read period, even at the Ph.D. level. You read any of his books one time, and you read it again: you are always in conflict with yourself with the first reading and the second reading. Kafka will always be a problem if made into any movies. It has been done before with "The Trial" only to be rejected by the intelligentsia and the public.

Still, glad you did read his book, as it shows to me your part of the intelligentsia!

But... but The Bible is a science book! They teach it in biology classes! You can't use standards for literatures upon it!

Oh I love Kafka. The Trial is one of my all time favorite books. (Wouldn't want to see it as a movie though and didn't know one had been made... now I'm not sure I'll be able not to watch it, lol)

In this case though I think what was meant was the author Haruki Murakami who has a book called "Kafka on the shore", where the protagonist is simply named Kafka 🙂

Well it was made into a movie in 1962 by Orson Wells. Was a box office flop.
 
I have not seen that movie ... but there was a 1993 movie as well of the same title. Not sure they have them on blu-ray or DVD.

Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924) Born Prague, died Klosterneuburg Austria. Book written during 1914-1915 and published in 1925. If you like the book, you might like to read "The Metamorphosis when Gregor Samsa turns into a insect! If you really like Austria-Hungary literature he is your man. If you like alienation literature, person to read. Short life, as tuberculosis is not good.
