One of the most disappointing book to movie I've seen recently is The Mistress of Spices. The book, written by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, was a fantastic journey into a very exotic world. The mistress of spices was supposed to be a young woman disguised as an old woman to avoid attracting worldly attention because the mistress can't ever be in a romantic relationship. Her calling requires her to spend her life helping people. Who do they cast in the role? Miss Aishwarya Rai, and they had her play the role in her complete glorious beauty!!! The story gets worst, and it was not even the same as the book anymore. I suppose they were afraid that nobody would want to see the film if the heroine is a wrinkled old woman. The film makers just didn't get the story. She only appeared old when she's with other people.
