books...your impressions?

Yeah I agree, But I'm trying to think of the movie as separate from the book, because it is never gonna compare, I'm not gonna look for all the difference and flaws compared to the book, thats what I did with Harry Potter and I didn't like them(although the last one was good). But I would be really interested to see an A&D Movie, just because of the whole countdown thing I thing it would be really good!
 
See, I cant do that the first time I watch it. I sit thinking "thats wrong" "that never happened" etc.

It ruined Harry Potter for me. But the second time I see them Im ok. I can think of them as just movies. Pity I couldnt see it for the second time the first time 🙂
 
I'm gonna force myself to not do that, lol.

Has anybody read the The Dark Materials Collection, It's a trilogy of Books (Northern Lights (The Golden Compass, in America), The Subtle Knife and The amber Spy Glass) There excellent books, There supposed to be making a movie for them too.
 
I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and it was excellent, but it was an edited version, so it was easier to read. I checked out the original and it was just too hard to read.

reading this thread agian i was reminded of Tiger eyes by Judy Blume fabulous book, also When Marcy was here(auther i forgot the name)

Chicken Little (again i forget the authers name )has nothing to do with the animated film of same name!

Girl, Interupted: by susanna kaysen: the movie with the same title is based on the book... not a bad filmatisation.. but the book is SOO much better! love this book, read it 4 times.

Virgin suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides: the movie of this book is an excelent translation of book... the book is so sad, so heart breaking and is beautifully writen... like this passage; it is BEAUTIFUL!!!

It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls, only that we had loved them, and that they hadn't heard us calling, still do not hear us, up here in the tree house, with our thinning hair and soft bellies, calling them out of those rooms where they went to be alone for all time, alone in suicide, which is deeper than death and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together.

Prozac nation by elizabeth wurtzel: a great book, that is autobiographical.. about depression.

The bell jar Sylvia plath: (as wee see i like books about girls and mental illness) the bell jar is a truly amazing book.. it totaly draged me in to the very end.. i had it for a english course this fal(america in the 50s and 60s.. litt and civ.) we read the bell jar, on the road By JK(frenchy mentioned him), rabitt run by john updike, the crusible by arthur miller and cathch 22...

Cathc-22 by joseph heller... man i LOVE thsi book... i think it shows some the sress of people during war time... and it does picture very human rections to stress.. like yossarians reactions to the war, to snowden and the dead man in his tent.. one of my fave fave fave books... !

the probable future and practical magic by alice hoffman. i think alice hoffman writes so beautifully! i love these two books by here, which some people have the opinion of as very similar.. and sure they are both about starnge families with only girls that have magical powers.. but still i think they are very different.. oth are lovely though!

The broken fountain By Thomas Belmonte... this is an antropoligy field study, it is non-fiction!!! about the auther who went to napoli, italy to live there for a year... he couldn't speak italian, but had dcided that he wanted to study napolie.(he is an anthropologies--sp?--) it is very fasinating and well writen and it is not boring at all...

Once in a house on fire by andrea ashworth... its autobiograhical(or at elast losly based on the authers life) its amazing and gripping, it was the tittle that grabed by attention and i'm gald it did cause it is worth the read! she is reaied by her mom and some voilent step dads... in england, and canada.

Great expectaions charles dickens. love this book, though pip at times makes me mad for being ashamed of joe...

Krig og fred og religion og politikk og sånn by anne-kat hærland... translated into english the title is war and peace and religion and politics and such its a funny book written by anorwegian comidean!(she is FUNNY!!!) she discusess the topics in the tittle, addresses some issues in society(norwegian mainly)a good read
 
I read Girl, Interrupted. Very good. Must've read it about 10 times!

Frenchy Faith-Girl w/ a Pearl Earring is even better than the book. The romance between Griet and Vermeer is better here and it is written in a simple but beautiful style. I read it after I saw the movie and what a treat!
