Boris Johnson aide jailed over child porn - Exclusive

I'm speechless.

He was the first person that bothered talking to me when I joined. Someone I got fairly close to quite quickly.

As some of you know, I was raped when I was a kid. Aged 8-15. Al was someone that I would stay up all night chatting too when it got bad in my head, someone I thought I could confide in. Someone that I could be quite graphic about what had happened to me with because I didn't really know him and he was okay with listening to it all, was "there for me" and all that.

I don't even need to say where my head's going with that right now.

I'm so sorry, that is truly horrible.
Was told that by an online friend as well. And you're free to think that. But although it drifts from the discussion as such I just want to say that I'm not a fan of such comments. Don't mean at is an attack on you. Just saying how I see it. Sure you were right this time but will you be everytime you see someone you think looks like a creep? I've never had something like that coming my way but due to how I look/looked people have misjudged me completely and treated based on that and been verbally "attacked" and it hurts. You can pick all kind of signals from people and you might be right. But the look of someone don't make them something certain. But wouldn't it be nice if "He looks like a creep so he must be one but this other guy looks and acts nice so he can't do any harm." was the case?

Sorry if i offended you, didnt really mean to say all people who look a certain way will act a certain way.

But I have to add that I feel very upset that I saw this after I started posting here again. BB has been feeling foreign to me, but now it feels even more foreign.

I don't know how I missed this. While I can't comment on how you feel about BB DR I just want to say that I have had the exact opposite experience. I was just going to say my piece on Al and then go again. I couldn't though. For me, the response of the community and the staff has been staggering. I have had countless words of support and encouragement sent my way. That's both here and away from the boards . I feel we have been dignified and united as a community in our response to this. I have felt like I was back home again. There was nothing foreign about it.

I'm not trying to get at you DR but I don't like the idea that somehow what Al did reflects poorly on the board in anyway. It doesn't, no more than his actions refelct poorly on the people who knew him.

I take great heart from how BB has dealt with this, infact, it actually kinda makes me proud to be a member.

I'm still a newbie technically, but BB would never feel Foreign to me 😉

Even if i didn't get along with some members, it is still discussing Whedon related subjects!
all the Staff have been very kind and supportive towards all members here on BB,
I think they deserve a pat on the back once in a while 🙂 lol.

Oh dear. I didn't open this thread when I first saw the header. I didn't even look at who had posted the thread, I merely assumed that it was a less-than-interesting thread about a British scandal. I never thought it would hit this close to home.

Today, I'm at home with my eldest son who's recovering from a stomach bug. Inbetween reading this thread and starting to write my post, I've seen the post-woman's car, picked up Disney's "Cars" in our mailbox and unwrapped it for an overjoyed four-year-old who's greatest current worry in life is that one of his kindergarten chums picks on him for having puple winter shoes.

I'm smiling at him, right now, taking care not to display the tumultous feelings in my gut. I was never close to Al, so I have no reason to worry about just this case. Nonetheless it's as much of a powerful reminder to me as to anyone else here how easy it is to play a rà´le on the 'net.

Al Cooling/Edmund Blackadder arrested on TV

27-year-old Alister Cooling has been sentenced to six months in jail for downloading sickening child porn films onto his three laptop computers. Cooling spent up to five hours a day on Buffy the Vampire Slayer message boards where he went by the alias of Edmund Blackadder or"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦..

All of the stories seem to contain, some quite specifically, the connection between Cooling and Buffy/Angel fans and internet forums. Unfortunately, that is going to lead to more than a few ungrounded accusations that we somehow attract perverts. I would be surprised if we don't see quite a few editorials and news commentaries on that very subject. Just be ready, folks. This is going to be just like an earthquake. Get ready for the aftershocks.

To be honest, that's really unfair criticism. It could have been anyone, liking anything; just because he liked Buffy, and came on the boards, that automatically means more of us have to be the same? I really hope there aren't any 'aftershocks'...

You and I, and everyone else here knows that, but "guilt by association" is a far too common thing.

People always want something or someone to blame. It can be certain kind of music/artists, tv-shows, movies or games. Some people might blame the shows in this case and even if some people will come this way I don't think it'll be that bad. But I could be wrong.

I really hope you're right. But people have a bad habit of blaming everything/body but the perpetrator for what s/he does. I don't know if you followed the aftershocks of the Virginia Tech shooting, but they blamed just about everyone BUT Cho--the school, his teachers, the eBay shop that sold him his magazines, the gun store that sold him his guns, the law for not being strict enough . . . EVERYONE but the disturbed young man who walked into a school building and opened fire.

So I wouldn't be surprised if we did get some backlash. Not as bad as the Tech stuff, or the Columbine stuff, or the Unibomber stuff, but still.

I'm sure everything will be fine without any backlash, as Buffy Summers has said, we have done nothing wrong. So please don't start worrying yourselves about something that may or may not happen. And rest assured if any backlash reaches the board, it will be dealt with by the staff appropriately.

Backlash? there has already been backlash!

As a result of this Kyri (or is it Lean?) has rejoined the forum which means we get to listen to Lyri's incessant ramblings of how Conner was just misunderstood and Kean, well she just rambles in general about nothing in particular.

The two of those birds are like blue haired old ladies sitting on a park bench feeding the pigeons from the wrinkled old brown bag hidden in the coat pockets that they sometimes keep a bottle of the 'good stuff' in, all the while tossing breadcrumbs and pieces of lint (in various sizes, shapes and colors) to the ever-hungry pigeons whilst reminiscing about the good old days, or what of them they can still remember...

backlash indeed!

Kean agrees: It's Keri actually...*huff*
Keri? that sounds like an old 80's hairstyle.. the Keri curl

I have been getting the impression that people are blaming themselves for something...For what? For knowing Al? For not knowing what he "was"?
Nobody should blame themselves at all. This place is where we come and meet out of love for a tv show. We engage and we befriend people who feel like we do ourselves. We find friends. Sadly some turn out to have more to them than what appears, but it can't be your fault. Don't blame yourself for trusting him, calling him your friend (if you did) or even talking with him. The only one to blame...Well it's him for being self-righteous and hypocritical.

This is so horrible. I don't see what this forum, or any Buffy forum for that matter, has to do with attracting perverts. It was a coincidence. The guy was a pervert who also happened to be a fan of Buffy. This place is no more likely to attract perverts then any other internet chat room. Unfortunately, it is not the case that only morally good people are fans of the show.

Holy crap... did any of ya'll actually go to that link (vicesquadexposed.blogspot.com) He was arrested on some TV show apparently similar to To Catch A Predator. That almost makes the 6 month sentence a tad more tolerable to me because there is an on camera record of his exposure that will forever come back to haunt him. Wow. At that link there's an option to actually view the footage... I'm undecided about whether to actually watch it or not... how much more unsettled about this can I get, do I really want a visual? For now I'm going with no.

It's only a very short amount of footage of him being formally charged at the Police Station. It's not as dedicated as To Catch a Predator.

People can't explain depravity and crimes like this so they grasp at straws and make it something's fault. Because if there is something to lay the blame on, then it can make sense and people can move on.

Buffy/Angel may just be the scapegoat here. It's totally illogical. I mean if they are going to play that game then why not heap the blame on the shoulders of Dr.Who, which he watched his entire life? Or any other number of things that he we watched/ listen to.

Oh, wow... Thanks for posting that link, Airam. I tried to watch the footage 'cause I wanted to see his sorry ass get busted, but it said it was for UK audiences only.

I am just so mad that he didn't get more than 6 months. Seriously....
