Here is the total list of bombs for all of 2014:

The Legend of Hercules (-$52 million)
Winter’s Tale (-$48 million)
I, Frankenstein (-$46 million)
Robocop (-$42 million)

Here's the list of bombs just 3 months into 2015:
Jupiter Ascending (-$127 million)
Seventh Son (-$79 million)
Blackhat (-$63 million)
Mortdecai (-$63 million)
Strange Magic (-$30 million)
-$362 million

Granted, Jupiter Ascending tilted the scales, but if you removed that film they are still pretty close to being even, and with 9 months to go it should be a banner year for bombs.

As a rule the less money you into the actual film (effects etc), and focus on the story, casting, getting the right director and marketing it to the correct audience then the better or more successful the film. We have reached the age of the more smart and character driven blockbuster which meet audience demand, but sadly they only seem to pay off if they are brand products to start with (with the odd exception). But on the other hand there are more and more people in Hollywood who just don't understand the biz of making a film, and therefore just throw money at just hopeing that the pieces will land decent positions. The challenging in creating something fresh just gets harder.
