Kendra was called when Buffy's body died, but Buffy's essence never truly died. I don't think her soul fully left her body when the body died.

Speaking of souls, how long does it take before the soul leaves the body and you're truly dead. I think that Buffy was able to be revived 'cause her soul was still there minutes after her "death."

OK, so Buffy's essence never died and if we go with the theory mentioned, her prophetic powers where never past on.

Well, it was never mentioned about Kendra having any prophetic dreams. The reason's she new to go to Sunnydale were because of her Watcher, not because she was drawn there by her dreams.

meaning they where never past onto Faith. The dream at the end of Graduation was never specified who's dream it really was.

When Faith was dreaming in This Year's Girl, they could be classified as nightmares not prophetic dreams. If you remember the dream about them making the bed and it being linked in with the episode Restless you could argue that Buffy was sharing her dreams with Faith.

So, if we go with this, then Buffy never past on the essence trigger. So, to call the next full slayer, with physical and mental powers, Buffy's essence in Faith's body would have to be killed.

That's an interesting possibility, and we do know it is possible for the prophecy power, and the slayer power to be passed on to 2 separate individuals. It happens in Fray.

Wouldn't that mean both slayers may have to die to pass on the full package?

Not if we're still on about the episode This Year's Girl, because Buffy's essence would have to die to pass on the phrophetic powers and Faith's body would have to die to pass on the physical powers, so Faith's body with Buffy's essence in it would have to be the one to die.

Oh I see what you mean. Yeah if that's the way it's done, that would explain it alright. That's pretty clever.

The question would be, is that the way it's done?

When Buffy's body dies in Prophecy Girl the slayer power of strength would pass on to the next in line by your theory. Is that correct? In other words, it's gone from Buffy's body and passes on to Kendra. How does it come back to Buffy, if it's already gone?

The essence never truly dies, so if the power is in the essence it never leaves, it only triggers more power to be given to the next in line, but if the power remains in the body, anyone who killed a slayer would have access to that power. The First wouldn't need Buffy alive to have access to that power. The First does want Buffy alive.

If the prophecy power is passed on through the essence it creates a problem in Fray. I believe I proved earlier the essence would have to include both mind and soul. We see that both in Orpheus, and in the way Buffy comes back after The Gift.

Melaka Fray's twin brother, Harth has the prophecy power. He dies and is turned into a vampire. His soul, at least would leave his body. What would happen to the prophecy power. It's never explained if he still has the power or not, but I personally get the impression he does.

This is getting way too complicated for me...lol...

Maybe once the power is activated there's no turning it off. If the slayer dies, the trigger is set in motion for the next slayer. But if the slayer comes back to life their powers are still active, meaning they still have their strength, but the trigger to activate the next slayer is past on...does that make any sense?

anyone who killed a slayer would have access to that power.

If we go with the theory mentioned, they wouldn't have access to the power, they may have control over it...e.g. when to kill the slayer to pass on the power. But only a potential slayer can have access to the slayer power. They have the power already inside them waiting to be triggered.

His soul, at least would leave his body.

But he still has the mind and memories of Harth. He's not past on the prophetic powers of a slayer.

This is just me guessing, though...lol...

It's getting too complicated for me too Jules, but with what I have left of my reasoning power, after twisting my brain around this problem, I have to say, you seem to be correct.

If the prophesy powers were never passed from Buffy and there are two separate triggers; one for slayer strength in the body and one for prophesy power in the essence, then Buffy's essence in Faith's body would have to die in order for the complete package to pass on.

Here's a question, though. What would the criteria be for death, in order for the prophesy power to be passed on from Buffy's essence? Her body has died 3 times, she's been to Heaven, and by your theory the essence trigger for the prophesy power wouldn't have been activated yet.

I forgot about her dying in The Gift. But Buffy still would have had the trigger for the prophetic powers in This Year's Girl. After her death in The Gift she would have past on the dreams to one of the potential slayers.

So, if the theory is right, there's a girl out there who has the prophetic dreams of a slayer.

Her death in Prophecy Girl is different to the one in The Gift. For arguements sake, her essence didn't really die in Prophecy Girl, it left her body, much like in This Year's Girl, and was restored before the trigger was activated. In The Gift she was dead a while, her essence had died, activating the trigger in another potential.

I think sometimes we forget that we are watching a show 🙂
All this thinking is giving me a headache!

Actually there are college courses in Buffy.

Also; I forget the details but last year there was some kind of symposium. I think it was in England. Professors met to discuss Buffy.

That's the neat thing about Buffy, I think. It can be as deep as you want it to be. You can bend your brain around the implications of This Year's Girl, or you can just enjoy the idiocy of Buffy with a rocket launcher in Him.

Personally, when I started this thread, I just hoped for it to become kind of a funtime, thinkfest.
