Mattel has done some research and found that younger, Gen Z people don't like the "competitive nature" of the game. So the new version will be "easier" and "more inclusive."

"The makers of Scrabble found that younger people, Gen Z people, don’t quite like the competitive nature of Scrabble. They want a game where you can simply enjoy language, words, being together and having fun creating words."

The new version of the game "speaks to a trend in younger people who want to avoid competitive games and sense of losing."

Reactions: Nix
But they know more words than me, they MAKE more words. So they're not gona lose against the oldies anyway.

They should market it that way, "Are you tired of being indoctrinated to fear failure?, play Scrabble, it bears getting punched in the face."

I already get told by the oldies in my town that they dont know what I am saying when I use internet words.
Are we sure this isnt a tower of babel conspiracy plot? Cut off intergenerational communication and watch the world burn (more)

Do you get a participation award for playing the game?
Next up, the Olympics, where each competitor gets a medal...
"You get a medal! You get a medal!"

Because Gen Z are a bunch of failures and morons who spend more time watching TikTok or YouTube shorts than anything productive.

Why can’t companies just make a new game instead of screwing with Scrabble to celebrate the players’ ineptitude. What kinda society are we in where what was once failure is now paraded as something to be proud of.

Looking forward to Simon and Schuster’s new book imprint, “EasyReads”, where every book is dumbed down to 10 pages with big size 50 font simplistic summaries, because young people think reading and being literate is too hard.

Same energy as this awful trainwreck from a few years back

This really bears well for me if its true. If no one can use Microsoft office, then maybe I still have a chance of a job! Haha. Also, the lower they take the bar of productivity, the more us get paid for less 😀 WIN WIN!

I think they should make Scrabble travel where all languages are permitted. Lots of travellers who know many languages now, Icelandic has to get ya some big points!

Since the birth of the Olympics everyone that participates gets a participation medal. The old ones are very valuable.
First off, thanks for the correction! I don't think I recall reading this info in all my years (or I'd forgotten about it), so thanks!

Guess we can blame the Olympics for needing to provide everyone with a medal (or participation medal, more accurately) so everyone feels like a winner! Even in Scrabble. 😂😉

wasn't a correction, just a fun fact. participation trophies aren't anything new. granted, getting one from the olympics is a lot different than getting one from your local YMCA
