Bridges and Tunnels

I can see why Dubai wants to do such a thing, and I appreciate the cruelty in making slaves pay for bus fare, the logistics escape me. Granted, the Gulf Arabs love ridiculous soulless artitecture that serves only to remind people how rich you are, and nothing else.
 
Wow! Those other examples are between countries near to each other, but Dubai to Mumbai would be a long way, and wouldn't the tunnel have to go under [consults atlas] Oman?

I didn't know there was so much commerce and travel between UAE and India for this to be worthwhile. I'm inclined to agree with @AlphaFoxtrot that Dubai's doing this because it has money to burn. It could be a good thing for both countries, though, and might provide protection to exploited UAE workers if India was just a short train ride home.

The article speaks of scenic views, but wouldn't the view be mostly water? And where would the emergency exits be?

Also consulted a map, but I think it's going to go through the gulf of Oman and into the Arabian sea.

There won't be any scenic views at that speed it'll all just be a blur!

I did make a mistake in my first post though as its Saudi Arabia not UAE that has the bridge to Bahrain.

They could all do bridges to Qatar, if they wanted to spend money!
 
This is a tremendously long distance for a route between countries that have little in common. I doubt there would be much traffic, certainly not enough to warrant building a tunnel. It would also cross some tectonic plate boundaries, meaning it would be likely that the tunnel would shift at some point and the train would slam into a solid wall at some point. All this money to avoid travel by air? Maybe some Bollywood producer would take the train between a movie site and his favourite haunts in Dubai, but are the two governments going to throw that much money into a route so few other people would use? India would have better uses for this amount of money.
 
The UAE has no workers. India has no shortage of workers, skilled or unskilled, and despite what their Internet chauvinism would indicate, willing to leave the country at the drop of a South Asian headgear. It would basically allow migrant workers to go back and forth between the Gulf States and South Asia.

I think this is a major issue that might prevent it from happening, if they even get the technology to run trains at that speed and distance, they can't stop tectonic plates from moving.

However as well as workers, it'll also be a faster freight route too, probably cheaper than via shipping.


I do like the idea of connecting Tallinn to Helsinki though:
