Hi,
I am sending out an e-mail petition to bring Buffy the Vampire Slayer, back to TV. When I have reached a certain amount of names I am going to print them off, and send them to Joss Whedon.

Everybody keep your hopes up. Back when the show was on the air, before the suggestion was ever discussed officially by Joss, a bunch of us fans got a "Give Spike A Soul" petition. I ;like to think that we at least gave Joss a little encouragement along in the right direction...
 
I don't think its going to happen and since Buffy is already back for an official season 8 I think its actually kind of greedy now that we have the show back to petition for even more.

It depends if the actors even want to come back, most have moved on, many of them in other shows now. Most of them look too old or different to play the roles properly again.

Joss has entered into what is probably a very expensive legal contract with Dark Horse to have them produce Season 8, something thats taking up a lot of time and effort, and is planned out until at least 2010.

Most of the networks have not expressed any interest on having Buffy return to TV, which is why Joss had to compromise and being it back as a comic.

Any show would mean a considerable headache getting the cast together, having them take on the roles they consider to have had a proper ending, setting it after season 8 to explain the age of them, which would mean having to air it in 2011 at the earliest so that all of Season 8 isn't given away.

Or if you meant earlier like in the next year or two, it means converting the comics to screen, major headache and a lot of work for everyone involved, breaking the contract with Dark Horse early, possibly legal problems, money lost etc.

I don't see it being a good idea really.

Good luck with your petition but I wouldn't hold out any hope of it working for the reasons Kemy outlined above, plus online petitions rarely work (see this article from Snopes, which explains why - http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp ) Kudos for trying though.

You may also want to try posting in our BAD EGGS Adoption Forum, where new members may go if they wish to be mentored by another member who will help guide them around the boards.
 
Don't get me wrong, I'd love more live action adventures, the old gang back together on screen again. It just isn't very likely to happen, and would jeopardise the relaunch we already have now.

If anything you could alter the petition slightly to have Joss consider the spinoff comics he was considering to run alongside Season 8 to be direct to DVD TV movies instead.

Not a whole series, doesn't impact the main run of the show, chances of cameos of the main cast, but still live action maybe?
 
Always room to try, even tho we already have season 8 going I guess in life you never know. Even if you think you know deep down.
 
Am I perhaps the only one who wouldn't want them back even if they wanted to? I just feel like season seven was a good enough ending for letting the show rest in peace. I rather live with the memories of what was great than having them come back and not being in Sunnydale anymore. It was weird enough to read the comics at first.

A spin-off however, that's a different thing. That I would actually like to see (FAITH THE VAMPIRE SLAYER WOOOOOT!).

Yeah the vast majority of the cast probably wouldn't want to, fairly sure about three or four of them don't. Season 7 was a good enough ending to the show, so yes I could easily let the show be.

And not to mention the logistical/legal/financial nightmare involved behind the scenes trying to get a continuation on air.

And Eliza has always turned down any ideas of a Faith spin off so don't hold your breath.
 
Petitions and write in campaigns may not do a whole lot of good for bringing a show back after cancellation, especially after this amount of time when the stars have other commitments and priorities, but they could certainly give the producers and creators of the original show ammunition to help in pitching for a spinoff. "Faith the Vampire Slayer" will probably never go into production, but there are always other Slayers and demon fighters whose stories would be just as interesting, maybe even, blasphemy of blasphemies, better.
 
I think Buffy as a show is done. Would I love to see them evry week again? Of Course. I just don't see it happening in this dimension for all the reason already stated. We have Buffy back in the comics, anyone else think its wrong to kill her again just to try and resurrect her one more time?

Yeah, I totally agree with that!
as much as i would love buffy to come back to tv, i doubt alot of the actors would be willing to go back to tv, most of them have moved on to being in movies.
 
As much as I miss my Buffy I am happy with the ending. I am very happy with the comics also. I think it's all good now. I wouldn't mind seeing them revive something but not the actual shows.
I want to say I want a movie, like Serenity. But then again Serenity did not do well at the box office. Yes dvd sales were fabulous but I can't imagine that for Buffy. If it wont be a smash hit film, then forget it. That brings me back to...I am happy where it is now.
 
Dont get me wrong i'd love to see the show come back but i dont see it happening in the form of television series.... Possibley a movie... but i agree i think its selfish for us to keep asking all these things... I think we should be glad we have a season 8 in ANY way... even if it is in just comic form... All the actors and actress' are busy with new lives and new shows most are past Buffy... expecially Sarah herself i'd assume.... James is getting to old to play the never to age vampire... and so is David.... I'd say if we ever do see a movie or something of the sort... I doubt we'd see any old characters, and if we did it'd probley be like Michelle playing Dawn as an adult with her character being a watcher by then... Giles would be in a nursing home or something... Buffy would possibley be dead... It would be a completely different show or plot... Not the thing we hope so much for...

You have a valid point, and the reason I say a spinoff with new stars has the best chance. The Scoobies are supposed to be a group of young adults, and the actors just don't fit that description anymore.

Yes!

After Joss finished Dollhouse and the comics still go on and are very successful maybe he'll come back and think about making another show 'In the BuffyVerse' It wouldn't need to be anything Buffy related or it could be completely Buffy related. Anything in the Buffyverse I'm sure Joss would do well.
 
I think you guys give up too easily.
If the petition goes ahead and Joss agrees and brings it back, then yay, we have Buffy back.
If he doesnt then hey, we havent lost anything.
And have you actually talked to any of the actors? i may not have, but i am sure it would be a yes from most of them, they all said that they enjoyed making it. A movie would be great, a new series even, but seeing season 8 on tv as a series, wouldnt any of you enjoy that?

Think about it and if you want to sign it, I will send the petition to you. If not please keep your negative opinions to yourself. You might not see any future in BtVS but some of us do.
 
You know, I think the petition is a great idea. Some people say that the show had a satisfying end, and I disagree... I would love to see BtVS back on TV as I am not a comicbook person, and I would love to know what happened.
And just because you have given up, doesnt mean the rest of us have. James Marsters actually said he'd do it if they wanted to make more, up until the time of 2015. But think about it - with the effects and cameras and computers they have today, they still could make it look like he was as young as he was as Spike. I don't see why you people see it as a bad idea really - some of us really love the show, and miss it.
I didnt see it on TV, I have the series on DVD, but that doesnt matter - If it didnt screen in my country, I'd buy the DVDs from overseas if I had to. I love the show, and I want to know what happens next.

SO. I think we should BRING BACK BUFFY! Send me the petition, I'll sign it, and I know lots of people that would too.

The rest of you - even if you think you know that it wont come back, the rest of us will take action and TRY.
