Bringing Back John Winchester

and was wondering what the fans of "Supernatural" might think about it.

My thinking is that, considering what Dean said about his time in Hell (a month in the "real" world being more like 10 years in Hell) John would have had to have been in Hell for centuries. What kind of man could retain even a small vestige of their sanity, or even humanity, after that long?

I bet they don't even go that way. They'll do it in the same kind of way they've had Bobby back on the show. Though if anyone could do it, John Winchester can 😉

I don't care AT ALL how they bring John back, all I know is it would be a TRAVESTY if the show would end without a return of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It would just be wrong. Especially with how supernatural Supernatural has become... pay the man, make it happen.

Assuming he was still in Hell.. I mean, you never know where he wound up.. there was alot of hell happenings, and purgatory stuff going on... changing in hell's CEO and what not.. maybe he slipped out the same time Chuck disappeared... maybe John comes back as god!

Didn't JDM confirm at the con he attended recently that he would be back? Or that they're in talks to try and get him back? They sort of started to lay the ground work for it last season, with Dean talking about John a lot more than he has for seasons. The seeds are there that they want John back - or rather, they want JDM's John back. It would, of course, be much easier to bring Cohen's John back.

But I'm with B, I don't even think they'll go the hell route. They could spin it that his climb out of the pit at the end of S2 to help the boys earned him a pass upstairs. Or Cas conveniently forgot to mention that he grabbed John when he was lifting Dean and parked him somewhere for safe keeping, lol.

They could still do a flash back to Colin Ford's Sam and Brock Kelly's Dean, John would need to be older for that. AND Jard has already said that there will be some sort of flash back in the opening few episodes.

Personally, I would love to see JDM back - I never really understood the hate the character got when he was in the role.

I loved John, I love JDM, and while I don't have great love for Supernatural anymore I would certainly appreciate seeing John in any iteration return.

Is this going to be the last season of Supernatural? If so then yea bring him back. Otherwise I don't really care. I gave up on the show a long time ago. The show started off being about brothers working for and trying to find their father. So bringing him back might help bring back something that made the earlier seasons much better imo.

People say that Older!John was abusive, that he physically, mentally and emotionally abused Sam and Dean, treating them like soldiers rather than his kids. They use his relationship with Adam as 'proof'. People say that that is partly down to JDM's gruff attitude, how he chose to act the part, which is apparently nothing like a father, more like a general in an army. I've also heard people say that the reason he's in hell is because of what he did to Sam and Dean - which, hello?! Have you even watched the show?!

I'm glad I don't listen to other people in other fandoms. It would just ruin the experience.

I didn't either!

But what Lyri writes makes sense. I can see that some people would see it that way, he wasn't father of the year I suppose in terms of being nurturing and what not, but on the whole I always thought John was a pretty good dad, certainly emotionally distant though.

Didn't John escape hell when he came out of the gate? I figured he would have gone to heaven after saving the boys.

The easiest way for him to return would be a flashback to the teenage years, but season 11 does seem like a season of bringing people back, from the rumours I've heard.
