I think 'hope' has been 'over-exposed' for quite a while though, TV eats it up! I think Paul Potts already won that 'vote'.
I mean in general. It's probably because I have spent a good deal of my life in the US where the 'American Dream' is pretty much defined as such. In the UK, we're much more cynical about 'hope' and I really like that, we're down to earth, not overly excitable lol. At least on the type of hope im referring to...
TV love to manipulate the 'humble beginnings' side of things, Boyle certainly helped capture the imagination and heart of the people, but far more across the world. I'm not talking about hope in the sense of hope in the future or 'hope in a better world'... im talking about manufactured hope where its hyped to death. TV is obviously going to be about that, it needs to be to survive, im just glad in a talent competition the most talented won 😉
