King's College London considers banning national anthem after student officer links it to 'far-Right nationalism'

For more than 250 years, the national anthem has been "long to reign over us" as a "happy and glorious" message of patriotism.

However, the immortal verses of God Save The Queen have became the latest target of a political correctness row after calls at a leading university to get it scrapped from graduation ceremonies.

King’s College London was forced to consider an attack on the traditional anthem from one senior student union officer who claimed the song had links to "far Right nationalism".

The Union Jack flag and God Save the Queen instantly make me think of the extreme right: the EDL, the Orange Walk, etc. Those who spread hatred and fear. I hate nationalists, they've ruined my city. 🙂

I think they should ban it on musical grounds too. What an utter bore of an anthem. Sounds like a funeral march. England's dreaming.

Replace it with Rule Britannia. Much better imo.

But change it only for musical reasons, not 'cause of some political correct nonsense. Who cares if some idiots try and take a symbol for their own narrow views, don't let them have it. On principal if nothing else.

Didn't even know that Kings played it at Graduation ceremonies. Just as well I'm not going to mine even if I do graduate!😉
