Britney Spears court appearance

Yesterday the court ruled that Spears is “substantially unable to manage her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence” and denied the request to remove her from her conservatorship. The ruling was based on a previous filing and not related to her last court appearance.
What I like about that statement ( Sarcasm here ) is that by them saying the ruling is based on a previous filing is that they don't care what Brittany
says . And they don't want to take the time to do a new case .

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., with support from three other GOP House members, has invited Britney Spears to speak before Congress about her conservatorship battle, acknowledging in a letter to the 39-year-old pop icon Wednesday, "You have been mistreated by America’s legal system."

"We want to help," the letter signed by Gaetz, as well as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Burgess Owens, R-Ohio, and Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., reads. "The United States Congress should hear your story and be inspired to bipartisan action. What happened to you should never happen to any other American. Congress can make things better and you can inform our policy decisions."

I haven't listened to this guy (Legal Eagle, a lawyer) in a couple of years or so but I remember he had good stuff to say (at least back then). I've saved this for later, and sharing for anyone else who wants to know (frustrated as I am over the media reports which I just find confusing and contradictory):

I knew a woman who was incapable of taking care of herself...she used the services where I used to volunteer at. She was coming to us while her trust fund was being retrieved from like the 3rd sleazy lawyer in a row. I wonder if she'll ever see more than a fraction of her trust fund set up for her by a dying parent as one lawyer after another took it and ran, leaving a disabled woman to live on the streets. Luckily there was a group that helped women like her (and I can only hope that they didn't also try to steal it).

But then one should remember that if it's allowed, it will be done. When it was legal to send little children to work 12-hour shifts for peanuts (which the parents then took from the children anyway) and faced amputation and the like, it was rampant, and I don't doubt would be again (dressed up as "teaching them good values, we're such good parents, and the system creates self-supporting individuals"). Exploitation is everywhere. I just hope that the politicians trying to exploit's Britney's circumstances incidentally help her in the process.

But unlike most celebrity troubles, this one actually interests me for a number of reasons...though I think my knowledge of celebrities and Hollywood has quadrupled since I joined BB, not that it has empowered me in any way or made Hollywood (let alone the world) a better place.

If America's Founding Fathers could see what the Supreme Court of Los Angeles has done against Britney they'd be physically sick.
I think they have them thrown in the ocean & told to swim to China since things like that happen over there & then get sick .

I'm a huge fan of Britney too, and have been following this pretty closely.

She said that her father forces her to use birth control so she doesn't get pregnant. That just broke my heart. The poor woman. All she wants to do is have a baby and marry her boyfriend, but she's not allowed to.
Because she had a nervous breakdown in 2008. She's okay now and totally capable of taking care of herself, and her estate. She's not a child. Her father and sister are living off Britney's money and it's disgusting. Britney worked hard and deserves to have access and control over her money AND autonomy over her own body.

Also worth noting is she has refused to perform until the her father no longer has control of her.

I have to admit that when I listened to her talking at the hearing, she didn't sound particularly well or in control, which breaks my heart. But even so, she should have autonomy over her own body, and as I say, her father should be removed from her life completely, as I think having him in control is not helping her mental state at all.

Just reading that makes me chuckle - cynically. Someone pointed out Kanye has a history of poor mental health and had a public breakdown. No-one suggested his dad take charge of his affairs...instead he ran for President.

Exactly. How many of the rich and famous are actually mentally completely well? And it's only Britney who has to suffer this indignation. So what if she gives away all her money, it's hers to give.

I swear we're going backwards. This time next week we'll be in crinolines.
Couldn't she at least file to have her father removed from her conservatorship and have someone else (someone she chose) put in charge instead? That way, assuming that person doesn't turn into an arsehole, Britney can have control of her life in a practical sense whilst the person she chose to put in charge just acts as the figurehead eg if Britney wants to do something, the person just signs off on it.

The first two times she just tried to get out of it completely. Now her latest attempt is to get him removed and replaced with professionals. Though she never filled out the paperwork, was just hoping her speech in court would be enough. Now that she is actually filing the paperwork it's a strong possibility that may happen. The group she wants to take over the conservatorship was the same ones that briefly had to take over when her father (i think) had surgery.

I've heard people say that Britney didn't know that she could petition to have her father removed. If that's true then it's worrying because her lawyers aren't telling her everything.

If she had control of her own money then this would be over in a heartbeat. But at the moment it's more profitable to side with the father. That means lawyers and psychiatrists are going to be inclined to side with Britney's father over Britney, because that's where the gravy is. While extremely unethical, it's not at all surprising to me.

Given all the craziness in Hollywood, it does seem so random that Britney has this done to her (unless many others also are under conservatorship, which is possible as I didn't even know this was being done to Britney).

I couldn't help but think of Lorne being held a prisoner, forced to perform, in Vegas in Angel s4: the House Always Wins.

I'm not a fan of Britney (though she has talent, and nothing against her as a person, her work just isn't my cup of tea), but I do hope that by next Independence Day she really is independent.

If you really thinking devious & I am for the moment then while she had a nervous breakdown in 2008 I think that since then the
people who have been in charge have done nothing to help her get out since if that happened they lose all the money they getting .

But that just wrong & they would never be like that 🙄

Britney appears to be facing the claims against her in the courts one by one. Just like the police do if they think prosecutions will fail, so do the easy stuff first then introduce other stuff over time.

Sounds like Brittany has a plan then . Where you come up with that ?

It was on the ABC news here.
And then we be able to have more music from her . Brittany has said she not performing any more as long as other people get the money .

And I understand totally.

Britney Spears on her worse days wasn't nearly as self destructive as Lindsay Lohan or Charlie Sheen, and they still control their own money. Lisa Lopes from TLC burned down her boyfriends house! Shoot just pick a rock star from the 60s, 70s or even 80s and I'm sure you'd find more abhorrent behavior than Miss Spears. Just saying. 😏
