BtVS a good or a bad thing for ED

I was reading this discussion on imdb about her as Faith and about type casting and fans that won't let og of Faith.

So I was just wondering what do you think. Was the role of Faith a good or a bad thing for her career? Is she being type casted? Are we obssessing about her as Faith and are we to blame for the lack of a recent project?

Nah. I don't think the Faith role is affecting Eliza's career to the detriment at all.

Most of what she's done outside of Buffy/Angel is nothing like the Faith character, and she did seem to be able to find work outside of Buffy.

I don't think any of the Buffy actors were really bothered by type-casting. The show's audience just wasn't big enough to engrain the characters on the public psyche.
 
There are times that I think her role on Buffy was a great role, and she did an amazing job, and performed just as well as other characters. She's an actress, and therefore can play a lot roles. I normally don't see her as type-casted as the hard-as-nails slayer.

But, sometimes when I'm watching a movie that has Eliza in it, I always keep referring to her as the slayer. Example, I watched "Wrong Turn" the other day, and announced that she probably did so well outrunning and living in the woods because she was a slayer. It was all really a joke, but as I started thinking about it, I was type-casting her. She was still playing a slayer, even though it was a different movie, different character.

even though I do sometimes view her as that, I do not believe that her role on Buff really was detrimental. It was, in my opinion, phenomenal.

I did the same thing during the movie, I would say, come on faith you're the slayer you can do it, lmao. All in fun.
Well, I will of course always think of her as Faith, because in my opinion she hasn't done any role that is nearly as good as Faith. So to me BtVS has only been good for Eliza, since it's her best role ever.
But, I know lots of people who don't like Faith at all, but likes Eliza. And they certainly do not see her as Faith, or a slayer, when they see her in movies. I don't know, I just think she is probably being less type-casted than many of teh BtVS actors...
 
Well, I, for one, will always associate Eliza with Faith. She really gave some of her best performances while playing that role. But I also loved her character in Bring It On, so I'll remember her for that, too.

I think Eliza is a great actress and she can avoid being typecast as Faith. She did an amazing job as Tru Davies, who is nothing like Faith.

Plus many people who know of ED, at least that i know, dont know her as that gril from buffy, "shes the girl from wrong turn or soul survivor" or the gril from bring it on or the new guy. Some people only know her from the episode of punkd where she got punks. In conclusion I dont think she was type cast as tall and the only person who really could be is either SMG or DB because people usually refer to them as buffy or angel, i mean i have yet to read anything about SMG where her role as buffy has not been mentioned lol

I do know what u mean - regarding the typecasting though. Whenever I watch a film with any of the Buffy actresses in (especially horror films) I'm always expecting them to turn around and kick the bad guys ass - but they dont - in fact they usually die.

I can't really think that any of her film roles are like Faith or her role as Tru so wouldn't say she had been typecast. Wrong Turn she plays the weak victim, She plays confident cheerleader in Bring It On, popular girl in the New Guy, Junkie in City By The Sea. I think she has varied her roles well
 
Plus all the mains of True Lies(NOT including Schwartzeneggar) have been getting together for a possible sequel...that ED, Lee-Curtis, Arnold(tom) and i cant remember who will play the lead....i think it was Bill Paxton.........Source was Entertainment Tonight, UK Sky ONE two weeks ago...
 
Man, I read the headline for this thread and clicked into it with a mixture of dread and curiosity. Glad to discover that the ED being discussed wasn't the one my spam email is always promising to cure. 🙂

I don't think playing Faith has hurt her at all. I do think she'll always be a little limited by her husky voice and her tough appearance (she's beautiful, but nobody would ever describe her as having a "soft" look). If they ever remake Sound of Music, I don't think she's the first woman they'll call in to audition for Maria.

Lol. No you might got a point there.

I know it's not really the right place, but speaking of Sound of Music, I read somewhere that she for the moment were actually doing some theater work. See if I can't find the article.
 
I don't think it has affected her career at all nor her reputation... i believe it has helped into future jobs in her career...
 
Eliza is a great actress. I remeber watching an interview with her on the extras on the Wrong Turn DVD were she says that she loves playing strong female characters that refuse to be victims.

In that sense I think she personally picks roles similar to that of Faith's. Maybe not as dark as Faith, but they are always strong characters 🙂
 
I don't think it hurt her career, I think it MADE her career. I mean, if you are a huge fan of a show, and you see an actor or actress from it in another role, you instantly think of them as the character that made you love them as an actor or actress. It doesn't mean she won't get future work. On the contrary, I think it helps that she had such a successful role.
 
You could say this about any actor or actress who has had a largely successful television role. The Buffy and Angel casts aren't the only ones with strong fan followings. Look how the Star Trek casts have to deal with their more famous roles. Or the cast of Friends, as another example.

It's just part and parcel of the deal. Success can mean typecasting but there is no guarantee that you won't go on to bigger, better roles in the future.
