Angel wins this one with 13 against 9 for Buffy! I really hesitated and almost picked Judgment, Epiphany and Over the Rainbow so that would have made 16 at the highest. This really is my favorite season of AtS! 🙂 I also love season 5 of Buffy a lot but the episodes are less memorable and I'm more a fan of the seasonal arc than the actual episodes, with the exception of a few gems.

4 Buffy episode to 18 Angel episodes. Doesn't surprise me. I don't like Btvs season 5 and love Ats season 2.

14:8 - Buffy wins though I still like AtS S02 a lot.
 
More than any other season i see buffy s5 as a whole thing rather than a bunch of individual episodes. If I judged them compared to Angel S2 Buffy would win, but the whole is greater than the parts for me with Btvs S5. S5 is far and away better for me, because all of the wonderful thematic threads cross the entire season, not settling heavily on any one episode or group of episodes but permeate the entire season. For instance, the body is the greatest buffy episode ever to me; but the emotions and character themes that crested with the body were carefully crafted from the beginning of the season (restless and the introduction of Dawn represent a sharp line and thematic break from previous seasons to me). For me, the difference in quality between s5 and other btvs or angel seasons isn't in an episode to episode comparison and numerical adding up, but in the whole. For me, the superiority of s5 is when looked at and assessed as a whole. It is definitely a "big picture" season; more than any other season. Each episode masterfully builds on and dovetails with what came before with regard to character, psychology and themes.

I definitely agree with this but the point was to compare the seasons episode by episode instead of the usual comparison by overall season.

I understand that was what you wanted but I wanted to point out that the value of S5 is unique for me from the other seasons in this sense. That's all 🙂
 
I'm curious to see how this turns out; S5 is my favorite Buffy season, but Angel is my favorite of the two shows...hmm...
