(BtVS) The WORST.

I really dislike I Robot, You Jane cause that guy that says "You'll die" to Jenny is my least favorite character to ever be in the verse and I do have a hard time with "Fool For Love." However, I think I gotta go with "Lies My Parents Told Me."

zobothehobo agrees: FFL? Ok... Um... What?

It has it's moments but honestly it doesn't hold my interest and I feel like ... basically I feel like I was being imposed on to feel something for Spike that I didn't feel and it made Buffy look like the bad guy. I didn't like it.

FFL????????????? Ok... Um... What?
Flooded and Doublemeat Palace, unlike earlier seasons crappy eps (like Some assembly required and I robot, you Jane... ) these eps are completely devoid of any sort of charm. Just a regular snooze fest that I can hardly bring myself to watch each re-watch.

Edit: I forgot about After life and Beneath You

Yes - I hated Doublemeat Palace
zobothehobo agrees: Ok, I get Flooded and Doublemeat Palace... But After Life? Beneath You?

After life is an absolute snore-fest to me. It's tedious and slow moving and by the end when Buffy says 'thanks' to her friends I just wanna give them all a slap out of sheer frustration. Actually I more or less want to do that during the entire episode.

Beneath you - to me - is a stinker of an episode. (plus Spike in a blue shirt, what's that about?😉) It is equally tedious, the plot is frankly just boring, watching the character interaction only elicits an eye-roll from me as there's just something weird about it to me. It doesn't feel right.
The last 5 minutes are good but that doesn't make up for 35 minutes of wasted time...

I agree with what you're saying! These eps are also at the bottom for me.
I liked it better when it was called "Consequences". Adding more BDSM sex doesn't a deeper episode make.

I wish I knew where I read the essay about this episode. It's not all about the sex, but the sex scenes are also deep if you get what they're trying to tell you there. For example, the fact that they had sex under the carpet actually said sweeping their relationship or whatever under the carpet, by Buffy, like it doesn't exist, get rid of the problem. Or the Bronze sex scene, when Buffy and Spike have sex in the shadows, watching the light (her friends), the world she doesn't belong to, according to Spike. It's all very metaphorical. And those are just 2 examples I know I read. So see, even the sex scenes have a deep meaning. However, this episode is NOT all about the sex, you can't make it sound like it over takes the episode. It's a device to say all those things. And there are many of those in this episode. I just wish I could find that essay, I'm sure you'll like it, even though you don't like Spike 😛

Beneath You - I also like only the ending, which was one of the most intense scenes ever. But overall this episode is SO boring!

The worst episode is Fool For Love. it's so boring! it's one of the only episodes that I never watch.

I liked the flashbacks but Buffy turning to Spike for advise at this point was crazy.

What?? It's one of the best episodes EVER!! Don't let the Spike hate blind you. I don't love it because of Spike (that too, but not only), but because it's genius. A great fill in about Spike and the Fang Four's history. And the last scene, aww.

Don't think I've seen anyone else mention this one but my least favorite is actually Bargaining part 2.
I just can't handle those biker demons for some reason. Not exactly sure why but I think it's because of the bikes. It just doesn't work for me.

Part 1 is great though. Perhaps the bikers show up already towards the end of part 1, I'm not sure, but I consider part 2 being the problem.

Flooded is not a favourite either but it's still okay.

I don't see what's so genius about this episode, if anything it makes Buffy look stupid, she goes to Spike so he coach her in what not to do when fighting vampires, and James Marsters shows what a truly bad actor he is in this ep, yes I do hate Spike but I thought this episode was just as terrible before I did that.

Why stupid? He was the only one alive who faught Slayers and beat them. She didn't have a choice. It's either die or know how not to die. It's not like she wanted to talk to him at all, but he was her way for understanding the whole Slayer power thing, to prevent almost death and death. If at all, that was smart of her. He can't hurt her, she knows that, what with the chip in his brain. And he would do almost anything for money. She knew that, she knew him. If she had to pay him for information (that he didn't have to give her, he could have said no, and she knew it was a possibility) so she wouldn't die, why the hell not?

James a bad actor? I don't think there's anyone in the world who would have played Spike better. He MADE the character. Good actors do that. I can think of bad actors from the Buffyverse. Eliza Dushku isn't very good (maybe only as Faith), Davind Boreanaz is really not convinsing and shifty at times. Michelle Trachtenberg is really out of it. Amber Benson, come on. IMO, James is way better than those four. And I don't see anything bad with his acting in Fool For Love, he was great and really believeable. And no, that's not me the Spike fan talking. Is it the you who hates Spike who's talking?

Seeing Red
The only thing good about this episode was the cute Tillowy moments. The rest of the episode was pretty painful to watch.

I don't really like Go Fish, As You Were, Doublemeat Palace, Where the Wild Things Are, or The Killer in Me either.

Agree with most of those.
In Angel She or The Cautionary tale of numero cinco those are the only episodes I fall asleep during for the most part. She has the amazing dance scenes at the beginning but after that I am usually out lol. Now Numero Cinco besides for a couple funny parts the episode just doesn't stand out in a good way.

Now for Buffy a lot of episodes bore me in seasons for most parts of them. Flooded I think I get bored on that one of Afterlife at certain parts I watch them straight on dvd's so it is one or the other.
The Replacement it has funny moments but in general I like to just get it over with.
I think season 4-6 have its moments more with me.

for me, it's not so much a matter of bad episodes but hard to watch episodes...I think I've said this before... I like a lot of the episodes considered "bad"... just for example,

Beer Bad

I really like that episode, first of all, cave buffy is very funny to me, "what did we learn about beer?" "foamy!" but also, I really like that it took buffy to get down to her primal instincts and base mind or whatever to see the truth about parker...she was so caught up in her head before making up these fantasy scenarios, assigning him motives that weren't there... dressing it all up, you know... and it took stripping all that away for her to see the truth. "Parker bad."

and, she's still a hero, at her basic core.

Doublemeat Palace

I like this cause I like the twist on the classic horror story... and buffy's freak out when she thinks the meat is people is pretty funny. also xander's reaction when he thinks he ate a person patty

Go Fish

I really like cordelia's speech to what she thinks is xander. it shows how much she really cares about him. and I like the ending. it's happy to me.

there are definitely moments in episodes that I find hard to watch (certainly buffy's treatment of spike in dead things) but I'd say overall the episode I have the hardest time watching is "the wish".

I know it's an alternate universe and so doesn't really count, or something, but it's just so sad! and the end with buffy dying...

my heart sinks.

Dead things sometimes I find myself dozing off there as well.

I think it's stupid that they made Buffy weak just so they could do an episode about Spike's history.
Buffy gets hurt by a regular vampire and completely falls apart because of it, that's weak, so she wants Spike to tell her why slayers die, what is he supposed to say to that? they faught, he obviously got lucky and won, just like that vampire got lucky with Buffy, she should've been able figure that out herself.

I agree that many of the actors on btvs are not good actors, I don't even think SMG all that great, but James Marsters is not good either.
and I've always disliked this episode, I have not always hated Spike.

I couldn't disagree more about James' acting. I think he's terrific.
For me the worst episode is Him, I find the episode to be unbearable and is one of the only episodes that I will always skip over during a rewatch.

As for ffl, I think Username has missed the point of the episode. The purpose of having Buffy wounded by an average vampire is a reminder that no mater how good Buffy has gotten at the whole Slayer thing, fighting vampires is inherently dangerous and the slightest mistake could end up killing her. Joss and company weren't making Buffy weak, they were showing just how strong she really is, and that she has to face death every single day. Its also a way to delve into Spike's history and a way to get into the Slayer mythology that was one the major themes of season 5, particularly the first half of the season.

But everything in every script is written in order to lead to the next step. This one is not different and there's nothing wrong with it. It actually makes sense that Buffy will get hurt once in a while. It will be silly not to make her like this. Weak sometimes. She's human, she's not a higher being or something who can't get hurt. She slipped and made a mistake. It's realistic. I'd be worried if they made her undefeatable. And the emotional weak, again she's human. That doesn't happen to her a lot, which means it can happen any time, anywhere. She realized something, that she's breakable. She almost died, yes, by a regular vampire. So of course it shocked her. What if that happens again? She's not immortal. and it doesn't have to take a big bad or a god to kill her. That's the point.

Why he's telling her this? Because 1)he needs the money, and 2)he's in love with her (which makes me believe that it's not even about the money like he wants Buffy to think). Spike is one of the most dangerous vampires in the history. She wants to know what she's walking into. Lucky? Maybe yes maybe no. Fact is, he's killed two Slayers. How many vampires out there can say they killed 2 Slayers? Want it or not, Spike is a strong fighter. He knows Slayers because of his obsession with them. He knows about their death wish and he used that knowledge. He knows what Buffy really is as a Slayer. He uses that knowledge, and Buffy uses it too. Because he is the only one around who's alive and bagged 2 slayers. Buffy wants to use that information to prevent from dying.

I don't agree about James, but whatever. Your opinion. I just like looking at actors' acting when I'm watching something. And I can actually see what Spike feels, so I think James delivers Spike's feelings very well.

Yeh. I can always always tell what Spike is feeing. And that's one of the great things about his charcter. That he can't ever really hide his feelings. James does a great job with that.

I think James was brilliant as Spike. He's undoubtedly the reason I've come to love the character.
I think it's stupid that they made Buffy weak just so they could do an episode about Spike's history.

Why is it that Spike haters dislike everything that happens AROUND Spike and refuse to believe that anything that happens that explores Spike's character or the Spuffy relationship was not done ONLY for that purpose? Seriously, I've seen so many important moments for the other characters (namely Buffy) reduced to plot devices like this one.

Buffy is human. She IS going to get hurt. The fact that she dies at the end of the season plus the fact we've never seen her really get hurt says to me Buffy getting hurt and being weak in this episode was supposed to remind us (the viewers) and her of her mortality.

She wants him to tell her about how he won those fights because she doesn't lose. It doesn't fit in her mind. She just came the closest she ever had to losing a fight with a vampire and was shaken. She wanted to know why. Looking for reasons about what made that fight special. Spike's the only account she had to another slayer's final fight. I think it's a pretty logical direction to go. And this episode isn't ONLY about Spike. It's also about Buffy. Like Spike or not, like what Buffy's feeling or not... Buffy IS a character in this episode, she DOES have feelings AND a point of view. This is an important episode for not just Spike and his development in the viewers' eyes... but also Buffy and her acceptance of her mortality.

Dead Things and Smashed. Only two episodes I regret watching every time I watch them in my rewatches.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates Dead Things. That episode is more grotesque to me than anything I've seen on HBO or Showtime.
KellGreen agrees: Do you happen to remember where you read it? I would SO love to read an essay on that ep.

No, sorry. Wish I did, I would love to read it again, because there are some wonderful insights in there. But you should look for an essay, any essay on the episode, I'm sure there are other essays on it out there. Maybe I'll look for it too. Although it was years ago, but some stuff got stuck in my head till today.

I am at the point in my season 2 re-watch that I have to watch Ted and then Bad Eggs.

I don't remember really enjoying either of these episodes. And I'm procrastinating right now. I'm making this reply so that I can hold off on pushing play . . . So sad.
