After reading some things about Buffy, I was amazingly suprised to hear that the set for the vineyard cost, 11 million dollars to build.

To me that seems pretty excessive and way off budget. Since as BtVS's budget was something like 2.5 million an episode (http://www.restlessbtvs.com/episodes/season7/18dirty/index.html).

Does anyone else wonder what the majority of the money was spent on (probably SMG's salary) or how much the other set's cost?

I remember a reference from someone saying that the fight scene in 'Anne' practically drained the whole Season 3 fund.

wow. $11 mill.
i could've swore i heard someone say that when Buffy was on the WB it cost just over one million.
Does anyone know how much Sarah made and ep.
Was it the same in Buffy as it was with alias. Because when Alias went into it's 3rd Season or 2nd (Can't remember) Jennifer Garner got a 375% pay rise

The WB would only cough up $1 million an episode for Buff'ys first five seasons, and about 75% of the time, they would go overboard and need a lot more money than what the WB was giving them, so their distributor, 20th Century Fox, would give them the extra money if they needed it, and sometimes they would end up giving more money than the WB would give them, and that's when 20th Century Fox got pissed off because they were making zero profits off the show and were in fact losing money because The WB wouldn't not appropriately finance the show, even though they had no problems giving shows like "7th Heaven" $2 million per episode, espechally when all that show needed was about $750,000 an episode. 20th Century Fox took their business elsewhere and UPN won the show over and began coughing up $2.3 million an episode. And now finally, 20th Century Fox is begining to see some profits with all the DVD sales and merchandise. So everyone's a winner in the end.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's Salary:

Season 1-2: $35,000
Season 3-5: $50,000-$70,000
Season 6-7: $100,000

Stupid WB - Yay Upn! Thanks for the info!
I take the budget with a pinch of salt. I mean yes they try and stick within it but its not like they're going to have to do the finale with stick figure demons if they run out of money. Just means they'll be some execs going "Damn that Joss!!"

wow...that's a lot of money there....
SMG's salary is crazy! I mean, I guess that's not bad because she's the main character, and a really good actress and all but that's a lot of money she made!! Although it's probably not a lot to her..

It sounds like SMG would be more expensive. I heard from some source that she made like 70k for the first season. And a lot more for the latter seasons! But I could be totally off.

No, in the shows first two seasons SMG was very underpayed because the show was still new, she was a nobody, and harldy anyone watched it.

By the end of Season 2, the show had become a huge hit for the WB and SMG's stardom had risen to the top so the WB increased her salary by up to +100%

Still, for her best season - $100,000? I mean, I know that Friends and Buffy are totally different shows but that cast made one million dollars an ep in its final season. (Not that one hundred thousand is bad or anything - but still)

Well that's because "Friends" averaged around 25 million viewers, while "Buffy" averaged around 5 million viewers.

I'm sure SMG could've probably got more if she would've pushed for it (maybe around $150,000-$200,000) but like i have said in other threads, SMG isn't the ***** everyone thinks she is. She knows what's fair and what isn't. Her salary is fair. The "Friends" cast salary isn't, and they know it and have even admitted it.

does anyone know what kind of monet the supporting characters made. i think that the show was as dependant on them as it was buffy so they should have got the same cash but i doubt it very much.
