Buffy #10 on list of top 10 shows from the 90s people search for

I thought it was just some kiddy anime thing? And then they made one of the worst movies ever out of it.

I thought Avatar: The last Airbender was more popular than DBZL.

Still, I'm actually really impressed that Buffy's even on this list. It's really the only show on this list that could be described as 'cult'.
The others: A couple of kids shows (nostalgia) and a few very successful sitcoms (that all got 9-12 seasons) that- for better or worse- defined the 90's.

Star Trek is well, star trek. To be honest there are many people who will watch that no matter what just because of the name. How else do you explain how ST: Voyager gets 7 seasons? Plus it was a revival off the back of the OS and the movies.

The X-Files is the only other one like Buffy- a genre show- and that was way more influential and pervasive. Two movies, numerous video tie ins ('this time the truth will finally be revealed'. Yeah, whatever Chris) and a couple of (failed) spin-offs, it certainly seems way bigger than Buffy to me. Didn't it get a ridulous amount of seasons?
I think the internet fanbase is the key here. I remember Joss saying in an interview that the net fans meant that Buffy thrived in a way it wouldn't have otherwise- and apparently it still seems to. 🙂

DBZ is actually most popular with adults now I think lol it's a case of all the fans now being grown ups, but yes, at some point kids were watching. And that movie was the most horrendous thing I've ever seen.

Xena was massive too!! Oh my word. Xena was THE thing for awhile. Much more popular than Buffy ever was.
Dragonball Z was so popular at the time it was even name dropped on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Dragonball Z was massive.

I know it was a spin-off more popular than Hercules, but I always figured it was a cult-ish thing, like Buffy. Although I wouldn't have been surprised if it ended up on this list because of the, uh, massive sub-text thing. 😀

Sitcoms were clearly very popular in the 90s. The era of television when people stopped going out on a Friday night but instead stayed home to watch the newest episode of Friends and Frasier.

Yeah but I meant in the top ten. Given what a cult sensation it was and that its being brought back thought it'd be right up there.

Dragon Ball Z is a Manga storie possibly the most well known.

Yeah very true, even in the UK it seems like that sort of culture became the norm.

First of all you can say that about 90% of sitcoms and second it clearly isn't true. Seinfeld experimental form and characters more than most during its run, yet it retained the relieable characteristics which its audience came to relie on.

To me George is the just the perfect comic/tragic neurotic character who can never, ever be happy because of his many foilables.
But boy to I loath Kramer though. All his jokes are 'I'm weird!! Look at me I'm weird!'' and that's it. Utterly OTT acting and never, ever funny- the only downside of Seinfeld.

But that's because he's the classic odd boy character who just stumbles onto things and says whatever's on his mind damn how it effects the people round him. I think the character you discribe is more the Kramer of the first season and half? After that they do flesh him out and IMO he's very funny. Some of his slapstick is just awesome!
 
I've always been on the fence about whether or not to try Seinfeld. It never particularly appealed to me, but I love Julia Louis Dreyfus in Old Christine and Veep, so I've been considering it for a while.

Will have to take your word on this living in the UK. I don't really know much about the impact of the fallout. Although I don't see why it should taint it. Is Chinatown seen as any less of a masterpiece because of Polanski's demons? I don't think so myself.

Besides the fact than I'm clearly bias towards the show😉 Yeah try it, because if anything like Seinfeld you have watch it to form your own opinion. And as a female character in a 1990's sitcom Dreyfus did so much to open doors for women in comedy and she's great throughout. The first season is pretty poor, but then is only six episodes, its starts getting into its stride after that and from season three doesn't look back.
 
Friends and Frasier I get, they're both so watchable. And The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is a true 90s classic.

But Dragonball Z?! I don't get it. Maybe I should start watching that instead of Buffy? lol
 
Surprised Dragon Ball Z was #1. But it does have a big fan base. Plus isn't it a card game too? So that could also account for some of the searches maybe. Glad to see Boy Meets World made the list. It is one of my favorite shows ever! (and no I don't watch Girl Meets World). Overall it's a decent representation of 90's television.
