"Buffy The Vampire Slayer" alum Rutger Hauer will be playing an old relative of Sookie and Jason's named Niall Brigant. Hauer teased to EW that he'll be showing the Stackhouse siblings a "few tricks." Initially Hauer was said to be cast as Macklyn, a vampire that Sookie's life was promised to. The question remains as to whether Macklyn and Niall are the same person.

Must say, of all the things Rutger Hauer has done "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is not the first thing that comes to my mind.

So I find it a bit strange to call him "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum.
But I guess it's kinda fun that someone does remember him from Buffy. 🙂

Haven't seen Rutger Hauer in anything for a long time.
I'm bit curious to see how he perform these days.

Who was he in Buffy? I love when they use guest actors of certain shows and make that one episode connection with what they're doing now. "Alum" implies recurring or main actor to me.
 
I totally did not remember this guy anywhere in the fandom... I had to Google him to find out who he played. LOL
 
Lol I got giddy with excitement I hadn't anticipated ( was expecting someone from the show) because I love Rutger Hauer! He isn't what I pictured as Niall but I'm certain he'll be excellent!

Never heard of him...who did he play in Buffy? I was expecting someone I actually know...

haha nor do I, and im pretty sure Whedon has said the movie is non canon to the show completely.

I had to google Nigel Terry but I agree, he has more or less the exact look I pictured. But yeah, I'm game as well. Hauer is a great actor (perhaps not counting his part in the Buffy movie 😉) so I'm intrigued to see what he'll make of the role. I guess I'm afraid he'll be a little bit too... dry. Not that Niall is the most exciting character I just always pictured him with a sort of... sanguine vitality shall we say? 🙂
