One would feel exactly the same way if SMG and Amy Acker presented togehter. Or Sarah and Seth, or Sarah and Charisma.... on and on.

Right, but Bones lasted for like twelve years, and aired on the Fox Network. Arguably, Bones reunion is a bigger deal than a Buffy reunion. Clearly, someone disagrees, that's a good thing for this fandom.

You aren't going to see a James and Sarah pairing at the Emmys, not a Alexis and Amy, nor a Aly and Amber pairing. This isn't a shipping issue, it's not a Buffy slot, it's a David needs to promote his new TV show, who would be the most notable co-presenter. The only real choices would be Emily Deschanel or Sarah Michelle Gellar. The producers went with Sarah.
