Hey guys,

I run a site that's all about helping people figure out what order to read trades in, and I just started getting my buffyverse order up.

The forums I usually frequent are more super hero geared, so don't know much about the buffyverse, but I'm a big fan.

I put together my order before reading any of the comics (and tweaked it a little after I read all the ones on my list so far, except smile time) and I think it's a really enjoyable way to read all of them if you're just coming off the tv show and want an order that flows nicely.

The site is dynamic, though the character tags for buffy books don't display yet, but eventually you'd be able to click on a character and see a list of what trades they are in, and so on.

I can't link it yet since I'm new here (if you google buffyverse and trade reading order you should find it pretty quick.. second result I think!), but I did have some questions you guys might be able to help me with.

1) Is Buffy Season 8 officially after Angel: ATF? I feel like it is, but it's a little weird since they're coming out at the same time. I'm trying to figure this out while avoiding spoilers, since I don't read floppies, so I'm scared of searching the forums, haha

2) I'm not sure where to put the upcoming angel trade since again, I haven't read the floppies. Anyone know if it comes before or after Only Human?

Thanks guys! I really appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction.

I can at least answer your first question. 🙂 S8 is indeed set after ATF. The exact time gap hasn't been fixed (yet?), but there's definitely at least a year, possibly as much as two years, of time in between that is yet unaccounted for - and, without spoilering you too much, just about everyone who cares about the comics anymore is very much eager to hear the story of said in-between time, right now.

wow, two years? That's so much more than I thought.

I'm not sure how to do a spoiler tag to discuss what I was basing it off of, but I thought it was much less than that. I've only read the trades currently out though, up to Only Human.

Well Angel: After the Fall vol. 1-4 + Spike: AtF are the only canon ones.

Plus the full extent of Angel referencing AtF in S8 is one panel of Angel saying things got weird in LA for a while...

Yeah I figured the other Angel and Spike trades were like half canon (some things were weird, but characters show up in the in canon stories, so they've got to have some place..)

I just put everything in the reading order, even though plenty isn't really influential on future events, just cause... well, it's still fun to read them in where they were sort of most likely to take place.. even if they didn't take place. Does that make sense? haha.

It does seem like angel only makes that one direct reference, but that could even just be to the tv show I guess. Really it seems like S8 totally ignores ATF, as far as I can tell so far. I haven't read anything not in trade though (and am a little wary of spoilers, since people have told me there is big stuff coming up).

So Only Human and the upcoming Last Angel in Hell and other comics are not canon?

ps - the link to what i'm working on is in my sig, it seems like it's ok to put it there

Well in terms of AtF tying into BS8, there are no spoilers. I figure on one hand, the AtF story has been brewing in Joss since 2003, which surely predated the BS8 story, so he must have had AtF in mind when mapping BS8 out. But then on the other hand he might not want to alienate people who only read BS8. I really don't know.

I do hope that Spike & Cordy figure into the Season though, since they're such important characters to the 'verse. But as it stands, they've both only appeared in dreams/memory flashes.

Yeah, I hope they tie back in at some point. It seems like they're spacing it out so as to leave both teams with a little creative fluidity instead of making the Angel team have to end at a really specific place.

I got another question, if anyone knows... The 6th angel volume, anyone know what exactly it includes besides the Annual (Last Angel In Hell)? Which issue of angel does it go up to?

I just saw somewhere that it collects 23-27, but they had a question mark at the end of that statement, haha. Can anyone confirm that?

It has to be 23-27 as those are the Lynch issues. Bill Willingham takes over and starts a new arc in #28.

Did you want the chronological order of all the comics? If you do, PM me, because I think a guy on another forum has made a list that seems pretty accurate(although Season 8 seems to be all over the place, due to pop culture references from different years), and I could probably find it (we're not suppose to link to other Buffy forums on here, so it would have to be through PM).

Nevermind, he has a home page Steves Buffyverse Timeline

yeah, I just found that one, actually! I don't want to read in too much detail for the stuff I haven't read yet, but I placed the Last Angel In Hell trade after reading it and am pretty confident in it. I'll just wait until the next ones come out to do anymore.

The season 8 stuff is pretty easy for my purposes since the trades just go in the numbered order and are the last thing on the list at this point.

thanks for the link, though!

Pst, I think it's against the rules to talk about illegal downloading.
either way, don't think it's legal, but aaaanyway, I think it's way worth it to have the trades. I just like having bound copies of my comics that sit nicely on the shelf.

I found em all for about 5 dollars a book by getting a lot on ebay. Very worth it and a great way to catch up.

I bought the omnibus volumes the same way and then cracked and got all of angel new in hardcover haha

It's totally worth it! I bought them all for my fiance this past christmas (was the big gift this year) through a big ebay lot and she was super happy with it. I ended up reading them all before her though 😉
