Ok so i don't really know where to post this. i'm still looking around and getting used to things, but here are some thoughts.
So the other night I watched an episode of Angel it was titled "I Will Remember You." and let's just say I almost cried at the end. To go a day and sharing something so powerful and so special and giving that up to go save the world was just so shocking. I honestly do not know how Angel could live with the decision of giving that memorable day up. A day that they both longed for. I could not imagine what it would be like to have to make that tough decision. I mean it had to be, but still it was so sad that he remembers, but no one else does.
I do not know what I would do. This is why I love the forbidden love that Angel and Buffy share with one another. It's in their reach, but yet so far away.

Apologies for the confusion, totally my fault. It's where it should be now though! :)
I'd suggest the Bangel Forum for this topic. 🙂 Great to see you posting!

EDIT: Or S1. 😛 So, now that it's moved.. Actually, I wasn't hugely touched by IWRY. It all seemed overly dramatic to me. Also, too sappy. 😉

Bangel is a better forum lol I'll move it again!
I totally agree with you about IWRY. The ending scene was really touching. One of my favorite scene overall on both shows! Shun the haters!

There's IWRY haters? *gasp* Even as a Spuffy I appreciate it's beauty :)
And just imagine how he must have felt a year later when Buffy died anyhow, while saving someone else's life. I wonder if it ever sank in that the Powers played him like a deck of cards, setting him up to renounce what was, as far as he knew at that time, the only possible chance that he and Buffy would ever have at leading any kind of happy life together, and making him actually believe that he had made the decision of his own free will.

(Okay, here's one of those Angel Troll moments, where I set myself up for vicious counterattack by all the people out there who don't agree with me.)

I know. I could only imagine. I mean Angel goes through a lot. Shoot even Buffy, but Angel was human again and you can tell he loved it. It was sad he gave it up again. I agree though I think they were playing with him. I think things could work
Ah, IWRY, an episode that never fails to make me cry. In fact, when I need a good cry or am feeling particularly hormonal/emotional and need a release, in goes the DVD!

I agree that it's not just the goodbye at the end that makes it so hard but the things you said about how monumental it was and how hard it would be for Angel to make the decision. I've always seen it as a reflection of Buffy in Becoming. They both had to take something away from each other for the good of the world and I'd go so far as to say that's the hardest decision either of them has ever had to make.

But with its sadness, it does also show us what they have to come in their future together 😉

oh yes that would be a good remedy for being emotional/hormonal. lol And i totally agree with what you said they did take away something from each other which i never made the connection before. it is truly amazing

That is why I enjoy reading your posts flannen; I always come away with some new insight. :) Very insightful post. Now I know why I love IWRY you so much because I love Becoming.

I always cry when I watch IWRY and the last time I started crying before the sad part at the end and was still crying after it was over. Then I watched the happy scenes when Buffy and Angel were in bed again. 🙂

You know, for a guy who proclaims to be a Spuffy, you sure do harp on an awful lot about an alternate scenario that would have ensured Spuffy never even existed.

Hmmmm, I wonder why that is?

Closet Bangel much, guys? 😉

As for IWRY, no matter how many times I watch it, I am guaranteed to have my heart ripped out of my chest and than handed back to me in a tattered mess. Buffy sobbing "It's not enough time..." over and over.

🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

I harp when ANYONE is manipulated, Miss K, and as for Spuffy not being, Spike and Buffy, good, bad, of indifferent, were inevitable from the first moment that they met.

I adore that sig banner.

Not to hijack the thread too much but I definitely think it's the not so subtle manipulation of the PTBs. They were still sending visions after Angel was apparently released from his duty.

I personally think it's possible that it's a test and if it was, Angel passed. He was willing to sacrifice all his happiness even for the chance that the person he loves can survive a little longer and also they need someone who is powerful enough to be an effective warrior for the forces of good (he could still fight as human but wouldn't be as powerful) and someone who will choose the mission first.

As for the ep itself, it's more Bangel than it is Angel if you get my meaning. It was a nice episode but it's not my favourite. I wouldn't put it in the same league as the scenes with Angel and Faith (not in a shipping way).

IWRY never fails to bring the tears rolling. Everytime i watch my heart breaks at the end everytime. Its so crushing to have to amke such a tough decision like that, i honestly dont think i could have if i was in his shoes. Then Buffy's "I'll never forget" over & over at thend is so emotional amd heart crushing, i dont see how angel could bare with that memory. Ok so overall IWRY is one of my favorite eps, im such a Bangel sucker 🙂

Okay..

It's been a while since I've watched, but here's what I remember thinking:

It's a good episode, well-written and with touching scenes. However, I didn't like Buffy or Angel in the episode, and I especially didn't like them together. So it's not exactly one that I treasure, despite the good writing.

May I ask what you didn't like about them in it? The only part I could somewhat complain about is when they act all dramatic over 'taking time to think' and bla bla bla, then just give up and furiously kiss each other. Way to try and sound all mature and responsible, both of you haha 😛

Not only is the scene when Sarah... err Buffy cries really sad... But the last scene when she says something along 'And that's all there really is to say' and Angel respond 'Yea that's it' and then he looks at the clock and when he looks back she's gone and he has that look on his face, painful! Realizing what he has just lost.

i must be cold hearted, because IWRY doesn't make me cry, it makes me furious against Angel

Welcome to the Icey Hearts Clan. That episode marked the point where Angel finally got on my last remaining nerve, and I've had no usewhatsoever for him since since that time.
I'm a spuffy at heart. But I do admit that this episode, and the end scene in particular, makes me cry every time. It hurts so much.
I see Buffy and Angel's love as Romeo and Juliet's love. It's tragic, there's big love that can't be fulfilled, wallks closing up at them from both sides. Joss likes to hurt people, nothing we can do.

Interesting b/c I don't see them as R & J at all :)

Furious?? Why? Pourquoi? He did what he thought was best for both him and Buffy. And to be honest, the show had just started... It just *couldn't* happen 😛

I have been known to just watch the happy scenes and skip the end, but now that they're back together in canon, it's easier for me to tolerate.
