I watched a episode in season 5 Listening to Fear. and at the end joyce knows that dawn isnt hers.

Joyce: That Dawn... she's not mine, is she?
Buffy (after long pause): No.

Joyce: No matter what she is, she still feels like my daughter. I have to know that you'll take care of her. That you'll keep her safe. That you'll love her like I love you.
Buffy (crying): I promise.

The monks made dawn out of buffy, so in some way wouldnt dawn been buffy's daughter.

Just as much as Dawn was Joyce's daughter, if not more. Atleast magically. But biologically...

Dawn's DNA is probably a mix of Hanks and Joyce's DNA, so by blood, she's their daughter. I doubt the monks would have messed with that, since Dawn would have to fit in with humans, and might one day need a organ transplant, which means that her "cover might have been blown" in case it was shown that Buffy was the mom, not the sister.

But in some way, yes, if Dawn is made out of Buffy, she's Buffy's "daughter".

But I think that Dawn share blood just as much with Joyce as with Buffy. If Joyce had been alive, I bet she could also have jumped and saved the world in The Gift.

buffy does tell giles that the monks made dawn out of her

BUFFY: She's me, the monks made her out of me.

If they created Dawn out of Buffy, it wouldn't be like her daughter (because that sort of implies somebody else's DNA was involved as well), wouldn't it rather mean Dawn was a Buffy clone/twin? And twin would mean sister again...

This has always confused me a little, and I think even the writers knew that it didn't really make sense cos they had Willow and Anya say the following in Potential:

WILLOW
A slayer. Makes sense, I guess. Remember that thing about they share the same blood or whatever?

ANYA
(shrugs) Yeah, I never got that.

I think it's just one of those things we're supposed to just accept 😀

There is a quote in one of the last episodes of season 5 where Buffy says to Dawn "It (Dawn's blood) is summers blood". I always took that to mean that the they have similar blood, but not the exact same. Also I guess I don't take when Buffy says that Dawn was made out of her so literally. She was made out of the Summers family blood which means Joyce, Hank, Buffy, etc all could have had a role in making her and probably all did.

Also if Dawn was made only from Buffy, wouldn't that mean she was a slayer? Buffy is the slayer and if the monks created Dawn out of just her, wouldn't Dawn get those genes and be apart of the Slayer line? I think it makes more sense that Dawn would be Buffy's sister just based of the fact that Dawn isn't a slayer like Buffy.

I don't think we're supposed to take that "same blood" concept literally.
They share blood. The monks used Buffy's blood to create a separate, but similar, being. It doesn't mean they have the exact same blood or DNA or what have you.

If Dawn was made out of Buffy, she didn't have to be a slayer, since Buffy was a human with demon essence in her, which means Dawn, her "clone", could be without the demon.

I guess i shouldn't take it so literaly. Maybe you guys are right, Buffy just meant that they're related.

I agree on the above.
I think they're just bloodrelatives.
But I do still think they must have the exact same blood since Buffy was able to close the portal at the end of S5

i seriously think that Dawn is the version of Buffy with no slayer. I mean to say, if Buffy had never been chosen, she would be Dawn. And see, Dawn in still strong, just not slayer strong..

she is mentally strong... not really, just in battle

I'm thinking more of a Buffy clone instead of a daughter...Like mini Buffy...

I think that we pretty much HAVE to take it literally, since Buffy's blood was capable of closing the interdimensional portal at the end of Season 5. "Similar to," or "almost the same" wouldn't have done it.

I don't care what their actual relationship to each other is; I just know that they share the same blood and that Dawn is Buffy's to watch over. 😀 That's enough for me! 😉

Anyone else remember the flashback at the end of season 5 when buffy saw Joyce pregnant- she's her sister.

wonder if the portal would have closed if they had chucked joyce or Hank in???

The problem is that the flashback has been put there, Joyce didn't really have Dawn, she thinks that she had Dawn. She is physically a part of Buffy and not Joyce.

I'll say one thing for those monks they are powerful, they tampered with everyones (non-demon) memories just to make Dawn real.
