Buffy And Faith

Let's assume that Sarah refused to return after Season 5, when the show changed networks, and Joss came up with the idea of having Faith return (suspend your disbelief on her getting out of prison that soon) and keeping the show set in Sunnydale, with all of the supporting cast from Season 5 returning.

Other than the obvious change in show title, what changes do you think would have had to be made to the show in order to keep the story line going in the general direction that it actually went?

Or, do you think that Seasons 6 & 7 would have been impossible with Faith being substituted for Buffy?
 
I think season 6 and 7 would be impossible. People fell in love with the show and the character of Buffy, take Buffy out and it's not Buffy anymore if that makes sense. The way season 5 ended would've been a good way to end the show if they needed to, it wasn't a cliff hanger like season 6. Faith is meant to be the yang to Buffy's ying and without Buffy, Faith's role kind of loses meaning.
 
In my opinion that's not really a cliffhanger. Buffy didn't really do cliffhangers.
 
The correct answer, of course, is to get a 'Faith the Vampire Slayer' spin-off IN ADDITION to the continuation of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' with SMG.
 
BtVS s6 and s7 with Faith instead would have worked for me. In fact, it's something that I wouldn't have minded seeing.

They would have needed to tweak the story but realistically it could have stayed fairly the same as for major plot lines. Spike is the only one that doesn't have much of a plotline without Buffy there, so they'd have to give him something to do if Buffy were to stay dead.

I think it's the most cliff hangery out of all the season endings. If Buffy had ended after season 3 or 5, it would've been nicely rounded off by the ending whereas 6 wasn't rounded off because the last bit was of Spike getting his soul. I think 6 should've ended with Spike leaving town after the AR then in season 7 he returns acting crazy then in the church scene it's revealed he got his soul and the demon trials can be a flashback in season 7.
 
As much as I like Faith it wouldn't have worked. Buffy was too beloved for Faith to just hijack what used to be her show. Either get Faith her own spinoff or add her to the main cast of one of the shows.

I could see Spike and Faith getting into a non-romantic shag affair in Season 6, especially given their "pop like warm champagne" past. Even though one night stands seemed to be Faith's thing at that time, there's nothing to say that she couldn't make an exception in consideration of vampire stamina. In fact, that sort of thing would have been more in character for her than it ever was for Buffy, but that wouldn't give any excuse for the attempted rape in Season 6, or Spike's quest for a soul, the possession of which was a major element in Season 7.

That is the one thing I would not want to see from "Faith the Vampire Slayer". I love that with Faith we got a female character that doesn't need to constantly be in some sort of relationship (even just a sexual one). Yes I may be a big Fuffy shipper, but in the end, I appreciate what they did with Faith in having her be a character that doesn't need to be defined by any kind of relationships. It would have been nice if they had kept that going for s6-7.

I couldn't see any sort of long term relationship without drastically changing one or both characters' personalities, but their interaction in that brief scene during the body swap, then again, in Season 7, when she was obviously coming on to him in the basement before Buffy broke the party up, just seemed interesting to me, and something that might be worth exploring.

I will agree that Faith doesn't need anyone to make her feel complete, the way that Buffy sometimes seems to, but we have seen on several occasions that she enjoys male companionship on occasion. I really don't think that she would object to a little noncommittal recreation after a hard night of slaying, and if Spike were available and willing to cooperate, why not? It's not like we're talking about Randy cheating on Joan, here.
 
i don't think it would be impossible to insert faith into Buffy S6 and 7...But it would be extremely difficult to go down the same path as Faith, in my mind anyways. Buffy died and was ripped out of heaven, and it brought all these dark things, yada yada. I don't think you can recreate the dark themes of season 6. I think you can explore other dark themes with Faith, and oh man would i want to. So yes you can sub Faith in, but i think the show's content would change drastically until mid season 7.
