I'm putting this here because it has nothing whatsoever to do with 'ships, romance, love, trust, or any of those other mushy emotions or concepts.

Now...At the moment, it's a fairly safe bet that somehow, in some capacity, Spike IS going to show up in Season 8. My question is this. What do you think that Buffy's reaction to seeing him again will be? Surprise? Anger? Shock? Relief? Joy? Will she punch him in the nose? Drag him off into the bushes for blazing hot reunion sex? Will she roll her eyes heavenward and say with a sigh of relief, "Well, it's ABOUT TIME"?

In a large part, I believe that her reaction is going to be dictated by whether she is aware that he has actually returned, something that I seriously doubt. I DON'T believe there will be any breathless declarations of undying love. I think that, after the initial shock has worn off, and after whatever crisis of the moment is averted, they will find someplace private and have a long, serious, heartfelt conversation about, among other things, their last conversation in the hellmouth, and whether or not they want to have any form of relationship, whether as friends, partners, or lovers.

At that point, I think that Spike will permanently leave IDW and move over to Dark Horse.

THEN we can work out the issues in the Battle 'Ship section.

There's going to be at least one really long and awkward silence, I'll bet. It depends, too, on how things are going with Angel at the time. My guess? A hell of a lot of confusion on Buffy's part.

I haven't been following season 8, but if I were Buffy I'd be mad he didn't tell me he was alive way before now.

That's assuming that Spike ever knew where she was in the first place, or had any way to actually get in touch with her. When he first appeared in Angel's office, "Somewhere in Europe, the last I heard" was the closest to an address that he was able to get. In the beginning apparently, and I would imagine that Spike would have found this out fairly quickly, the only apparent way to communicate with any of the Scoobies was through Giles, and he adamantly refused to forward a message from Angel to Willow about Fred's problem. Later, Angel has who he mistakenly believes was Buffy tracked down in Italy, only, unknown to him, it's actually an impostor, assigned there to imitate her for some mysterious reason, by, amazingly, Giles, and sharing her apartment was the only person who already knew that Spike was back, Andrew, who just happened to be Giles' Junior Watcher and probably co-conspirator.

For all we know, considering the close friendship and trust that Spike and Giles did NOT share, Spike, certain of the lack of cooperation and help that he would receive from that source, simply refused to waste his time trying. If that is the case, his only recourse would be to try sending Buffy a letter addressed "General Delivery: Buffy Summers, Somewhere In Europe." with a return address of "Spike, Los Angeles, California" (he would certainly be smart enough NOT to use the Wolfram & Hart building as his address for fear that Angel would intercept any return message, remote as the chances of that might have been) I'll bet that the Postal Service would have gotten a big laugh out of that before returning it for lack of a proper zip code.

Certainly, we know that Angel, with all of the facilities at his disposal, wasn't able to locate the real Buffy, and even if he did (he never told Spike that "she" was in Rome until he learned about the Immortal's involvement) he most certainly would NOT have shared that information with Spike.

So Spike might have a perfectly valid reason for not telling Buffy that he was back or where he was. He simply couldn't find her. On the other hand, Angel, who was no doubt trying just as hard as he was to get in contact with her, considering the personnel now at his disposal, stood a much better chance. Simple solution: stay close to Angel, await his opportunity to steal Buffy's actual address, THEN try to get in touch. Unfortunately, when the time actually came, he was as duped by the Buffy/Immortal hoax as Angel was, and figured that there just wasn't any further reason to try.

Hopefully, Spike will be able to explain all of that to Buffy before she gives him a Mr Pointy suppository.

Where did you hear that? I thought IDW was keeping Spike?

As for Spike showing up, well in a flash back, she wouldn't have any reaction because it is a flashback.

If it was for real, surprise, anger only when finding out how long he has been alive? Then anger at everyone else. And oh, happiness, she does care for him.

The Spike moving to Dark Horse thing was just what I WISH would happen. But who knows? Spike is a valid "Buffy" series member. It COULD happen. Or he could be featured in both comics. I could live with that.
Andrew offered to tell Buffy. I think if he'd really wanted to he could have - going just off Angel S5. I would get over it (if I were Buffy), because his reason makes sense - he was afraid, basically. I think I'd be at first really happy, then pissed, then happy again. But I'm not Buffy, so who knows! If Spike shows up in the comics I may have to read them.

Since Andrew was working for Giles at that time, he would have almost certainly told him about Spike as soon as he got back with Dana. And if my assessment of Giles and his desire to keep Spike AND Angel away from Buffy at all cost is in any way correct, Andrew would have been placed under strict orders to never mention the "S" word around Buffy or any of her friends under threat of torture most severe. He might have even gone as far as to use a spell similar to what Willow used in "Tabula Rasa," only he would have gotten it right.

Maybe reading the comics would change my opinion but I don't think Giles would put Buffy under a spell. Anyway, Spike told Andrew NOT to tell her so it's kind of beside the point whether Andrew actually would have done it or not.

Giles=the big bad. That would be awesome.

I was referring to Giles putting ANDREW under some sort of spell, not Buffy, but if he felt justified in doing it, I have no doubt whatsoever that Giles would violate Buffy's mind "for her own good."

in agreement with WA; i have no doubt that Giles would put her under a spell if he thought he was protecting her from Spike

Oh..duh...yeah, I could see that. lol

Hard to say and i dont really like it since i´m a Spuffer but Joss wouldn´t allow another Spuffy episode so i don´t really expect much in that direction. However i like Spike and im very excited about his arrival but Spuffy is finally over. Unfortunately we have to deal with it. 🙁

Good thing is in my reality Spike and Buffy are together and so happy. 🙂

His reaction is unpredictable so it´s really hard to say what he will do when he finally meets them. The hook up between Angel and Buffy doesn´t make it better for him. Poor Spike. 🙁

A speech like in touched to wake up Buffy would be nice or some unexpected reaction like Buffy kisses Spike or whatever. Yeah i know i´m very fixated on both of them but imho they are the perfect couple. Period.

They are perfect for each other and it´s a shame Joss dont thought so too. *sigh*

Maybe Spike brings the whole AI crew along with him. That would be awesome. :cool3:

Well, you ain't got much of a defeatist attitude, now, have you?

The fat lady hasn't sung yet, and Joss has been known to change his diabolical, conniving, scheming mind before. If the Spuffy ship does, truly, go down for the final long plunge, then I'm going right down there with it, faithful to the bitter end,

And then I'm gonna pop back up to the surface and launch my Spaith ship. The White Avenger will NEVER admit defeat!

Happily ever after for Buffy? Don´t think so. I hope i´m wrong but who knows.
I get it now. Joss doesn't want to be predictable. Everyone in the fandom says, "Joss doesn't like happy relationships/happily ever after." Every show he's made is evidence of that. People get too happy in a relationship and someone dies. Probably the majority of the fandom believes that if there is any chance of a happily ever after for Buffy, it's with Angel since they're "meant to be" and "their love is all powerful" and all that silliness. So Joss, always wanting to keep us on our toes, will give Spike and Buffy a happily ever after because it will be so completely unexpected. Whew! I feel much better now that I figured that out.

I wouldn't put it past Joss to end this season with Angel either destroyed or expelled into another universe/dimension/reality. Whether that would mean that Buffy and Spike would be together as in having any sort of relationship, I just don't know.

One thing that I am sure of, though, is that IF Angel winds up more dead than he normally is, he will almost certainly return in Season 9. I don't say that in consideration of IDW's series, since we have been told time and again that it is an entirely different story line, not officially canon after the "After The Fall: arc, totally independent of anything that Dark Horse does or might do in the future. We have been told many times that Joss has the right to use any character who was ever a regular on "Buffy" in Season 8 and whatever comes afterward, so that means that, not only Angel and Spike, but also Cordy and Wes could come back.

I'm in no way saying that any or all of the above will actually happen, but simply that, knowing the way Joss' mind works, it's not outside the realms of possibility.

I miss Wes and Cordy. :( You are right everything is possible and Joss can do whatever he wants.
Maybe but Joss will eventually destroy their realationship like he has done in season 6 with the stupid idea of Spike raping Buffy.Making Spike the doctor were also totally ooc.Joss is twisted i get it but these events were unnecessary. I hate Joss a liitle bit for that.

The AtF storyline has nothing to do with the story in season 8? So what happend after season 5 in their timeline? L.A. went to hell and is still their or what? 😕

However it plays out i´m just happy and glad to see Spike again. Even if it´s only a flashback.

I don't usually deny reality but I just pretend Seeing Red never happened.

My feelings and suspicions concerning this episode are so well known here on the Boards as well as other places that I'm sure quite a lot of people have started cringing every time the subject comes up. To make it very concise here and spare the cringers any more discomfort, I will simply say that, as far as I am concerned, there are too many things about this episode that just scream "WRONG!!!" to me to make it an acceptable story. Beyond that, I'm just gonna walk away muttering.

As for "Seeing Red," as sickening as that scene was, the very fact that it WAS so out of character for the Spike that so many of us have come to love made it vitally necessary to the season arc, simply because it provided the catalyst that sent Spike on his quest to regain his soul, without which he could not have become the kind of man and Champion, that Buffy would fall in love with the next season.

Yes the AR was necessary but imo it was too much and dont forget the AR from invisible Buffy. The look on Spikes face said it all.
