okey, as you can see I changed my mind, I'm posting one more thread..don't get tired of me..=)

If you're wondering why I'm asking all this questions: it's because I'm writing an essay and I really would like to add your point of view because I consider you to be the real experts.... :batman:

So, what do you think about the way Xander is always making jokes about his fear and his manliness and Buffy is more like this action hero :gun: (kind of like a comic book hero) always delivering punns when fighting the bad guys? I've read an articel saying that it was a parody of gender roles, do you agree?

Not sure about ot being a parody, but Xander's cracking jokes about his fear actually covered that fact that he was one of the bravest on the show. With no powers at all, he repeatedly jumped in to fight side-by-side with Buffy. There was a reason he was the heart in the enjoining spell.
 
I feel that at the start he feels demasculated by Buffy, which isn't too surprising. He was hardly Joe Macho in high school and now a seemingly delicate little girl comes along, beats up bad guys and at first refuses to let him go along. I think ultimatly he came to accept it but at times still wanted to prove himself. He grew up and no doubt got stronger and perhaps wanted to show Buffy this, but Buffy cared for him and didn't want him to get injured so still restricted his "field time", or at least tried to stop him going against some of the bigger big bads.
 
It's good for Buffy to demasculate men. She did it to Riley too. I love her for it. It was a parody of gender roles. Did you know that in the maternal culture (I think there's only one in the world), women are generally larger/stronger than men?
 
Yes...and they can go and fight all the wars for it...but then again, its always women who call on men to protect them when they can't do it themselves.
