Buffy Angel Crossovers

Hi Guys,

What are you thoughts on the Bangel cross overs?

Did they enhance or disrupt the Bangel storyline?
 
I think the Bangel crossovers enhanced Bangel and added a demesion even the one Bangel crossover that I won't name. They also furthered their story and reaffirmed their love and connection even part from each other.
 
Early in AtS season 1, the Bangel crossovers were the main reasons I looked forward to watching the series, especially I Will Remember You. They were like the occasional chocolate offerings in an otherwise (kinda) stale spin-off. I was like, "When is Angel gonna meet Buffy again?" like a drug addict waiting for his next fix.

I enjoyed them too and it was re-affirmed to me everytime that being apart had not dimmed their connection. Love, and bond. The exception being the one I can't stand. Buffy and Angel in that I feel were replaced with clones. lol

Even when they were minutes from meeting each other Buffy sensed Angel. So I am not surprised Buffy sensed him in Pangs. If Angel had realized that he could have come out of hiding. I know Angel told Giles he didn't want to get in the way. He didn't want Buffy to get hurt after being distracted.
 
The early ones were OK but Yoko Factor onwards it felt like the characters (particularly Angel) went through a reset from all development whenever they did one

I have a hard time buying that the Scoobies were insecure enough to buy into Spike's lies, even Xander. It felt so forced.

Angel though felt like a good return to the mutual respect he and Buffy had prior to Sanctuary. They were so sweet on each other that the events of Sanctuary felt like they were retconned away. If anything, I felt like the Bangel moment in The Yoko Factor was a great development rather than a reset, showing how far the two of them have come to show affection while keeping boundaries. It's a much warmer interaction than their departure back in "I Will Remember You".

It was good to see Buffy and Angel acting like themselves around each other. I love the Yoko Factor for that.

I think Sanctuary is written the way it is BECAUSE they wanted to give them that nice scene in Yoko Factor. The final scene between them in Sanctuary is just bizarre particularly for Buffy but I think it’s done purely for them to get Angel back over to Buffy so I pretty much ignore it
 
I felt they were better on Angel. (Incidentally though it's not a Bangel episode, I also think In The Dark was better than Harsh Light of Day.) I Will Remember You is touching. I preferred the monster bashing episodes when I was younger LOL, but I can see why that episode is popular now. (Also there is still some good monster bashing anyway.)

I Will Remember You is definitely Angel at his most heroic.

The Faith two parter meanwhile casts Buffy in a bit more of a negative light, but it's understandable she'd feel that way and their final confrontation is a good moment.

Pangs meanwhile is a great episode, but I like it more because of Spike joining the gang than anything else. His scenes are brilliant, but the Angel bits apart from Anya's line when he kills the ghost, I could take or leave. (I did also enjoy seeing Angel and Giles work together again though. I like the way Giles has got past the horror of what happened to Jenny because he is practical and realises it wasn't Angel's fault, but if you watch closely there is still a lot of discomfort. He can't even bring himself to look at Angel directly when he talks to him. Quite a nice bit of subtle left over from the trauma Giles endured from Tony Head there.)

The Yoko Factor meanwhile I think makes Angel into almost a caricature of himself. They seem to go out of their way to make him the bad boy to the normal guy Riley "Don't push me boy." UGH when would Angel ever say that? I cringed at that moment.

It's ridiculous that Angel would make out he slept with Buffy to Riley. Not that Riley comes off much better with his jealousy crap.

I think they were right to cut down on the crossovers after that as Angel did have to stand on its own two feet, but I would have liked an Arrowverse crossover where all of them have to team up to stop a big threat.

Yeah, I get what you mean. It was one of those moments when I cheered as a Bangel fan because it was something I would've said to Riley myself just because I prefer Bangel over Briley any day... but when I think of it objectively, Angel was kinda acting outta character in his lack of subtlety.

On the other hand, Angel had so many PMS moments in Angel when he constantly had mood swings and depressions that it didn't really feel out of place for Angel to finally just be fed up and take out his frustration on the one guy who slept with his ex. Angel was going through some pretty rough patches over on his own spin-off, especially when dealing with the BS that's W&H, a law firm he couldn't just punch out like a bad guy (his frustration is especially evident in "Blind Date"). So, I don't know, Angel acting pissy over his ex's boyfriend, it's not that much of a stretch.

On an unrelated note, I feel like the way Giles feels towards Angel in this episode is a similar sentiment I have towards Spuffy. I've been mentally preparing myself for the horrific moment that's "Seeing Red" in season 6, and even after trying to justify Spike's behavior so many times, especially when Angelus has done so much worse in the past... I just couldn't. And I've come to the conclusion that my feelings are not about whether if Spike is at fault or not, but rather, it's one of those reactions you have when a friend you know is raped, as opposed to some stranger (the former being Spike' AR on Buffy, the latter being Angelus' actions against off-screen characters we never saw). And I think what makes this especially difficult is that we witness Spike's AR on-screen; Angelus' actions were only mentioned, except for his harassment of Buffy which doesn't compare to what he did to Drusilla. But I'll get more into that in the episode discussion thread when I actually arrive at that episode in season 6. There will definitely be a lot to unpack in the discussion when I get there. lol

Made an error there. I meant "the way Giles feels towards Angel," the way he still feels threatened by him even though Angel has redeemed himself.

'Sanctuary' and 'The Yoko Factor' crossovers felt weird to me. It's the kind of thing you need to dive into their reasoning, otherwise you don't get it (at least for me).
The other crossovers though, I loved.
Angel was a nice addition to 'Pangs', IWRY is amazing, the one in 'Forever' is so sweet, and I definitely like the 'End of Days'/'Chosen' one, especially after such a Spuffy filled Season and the... thing that was Angel Season 4.

The Yoko Factor is better but watching Sanctuary was like seeing Buffy and Angel that were’t acting like Buffy and Angel. Just my opinion.

Yeah. That one was weird. I feel like the writers were trying to push Briley, but it didn't work because Buffy felt like the more OOC one in Sanctuary.

I really liked the crossover in forever as well. I feel like it showed that even though they aren't dating anymore, they still look out for each other
