Buffy & Angel Time Lines

This isn't a major issue, but since the the two series "Angel: After The Fall/Aftermath" and "Buffy: Season 8" don't take place in exactly the same time reference, why is it that suddenly the world knows about the existence of vampires and Slayers at the same time? Given that Buffy's series time line is 12 to 18 months or more in the future of that of Angel's series, the vampire/Slayer issue should have been covered in Season 8's first issue.
 
Editorial oversight?

Honestly, I'm a bit confused by this myself. Someone in my thread over on the other forum just told me there might be a two year gap between them... maybe something will be explained there? Or maybe it's just conveniently unmentioned in BS8?

They don't.

Aftermath isn't canon, and After the Fall ends late 2004/2005. At this time the people of Los Angeles mostly believe in demons, but outsiders look at it like mass hysteria (as to them, LA never disappeared in the first place).

It didn't seem to come to worldwide acceptance until P&P, which I'd put somewhere around 2008.

Yeah, Wolfram and Hart put up a glamour of LA (which cost a lot of moolah, apparently) while the real one was gone and nobody outside knew the difference. But the people of LA know.
 
I thought everything just reverted back to before, (which cost a lot more than mulah, haha) so it was if no time had passed... so of course no one knew?
 
yeah, so why would they need a glamour if time had turned back (I guess maybe they had one up before it reverted, but post revert it never happened?)

I mean, I think only people in LA remembered it, right?

They had it up while LA was gone not for the residents but for people elsewhere. It would look very strange if a major city just up and vanished.

They obviously took it away when they returned the city to normal. Also, in the last issue of AtF Wolfram and Hart's LA branch vanished.

So no one would have perceived the city as vanishing either way. To outside people it just looked like one night everyone started talking about how they had been in the future and it was hell there.

Well I don't think W&H anticipated what Angel would do in the end or what they would have to do. They wasted a lot of resources on him. lol
 
hahaha that much has gotta be true. I wonder if we'll ever see if they think it was all worth it. I mean, we've had some flash forwards or whatever, but that could mean anything.
 
Mass Hysteria has always been kind of a fuzzy concept to me (mainly because I only ever hear it in the context of someone in a fictional circumstance denying something that obviously DID happen, haha)

But I could easily understand LA just being nutters.
 
I always took the whole "the city never disappeared to anyone outside of it" issue as just another proof that time works differently in Hell. Angel was gone (Becoming #2 --HF&T) for four months (Buffy was still studying for finals in B#2 & in HF&T its a month into the new school year) but with the Hell time he was in Hell for over a hundred years. So in post-NFA (AtF) if the entire city of Los Angeles was in Hell for several months of Hell-time then it would have only been a couple of seconds Earth-time. Of course when they returned it would seem like they never left to the rest of the world.

I think that if some screenwriters and directors did decide to make movies out of the incident it would still take time. They would start in June 2004 and by the time it hit theaters (with the special effects and everything) it would be late 2005 or sometime in 2006. BtVS S8 takes place around 2005 or 2006.
 
yeah, that sounds about right. So maybe it didn't take as MUCH mojo since they didn't have to turn back time as well, just restore thousands of people to life (or undeath) and bring them out of hell.
 
While they were in hell Gunn made Betta George send a telepathic message to a friend on Earth that they're all trapped in hell. The friend switched on a national news channel and there was LA in glamour form. Minions of the senior partners were going on about the glamour and how much it cost them. That's why the city didn't seem to disappear before the reboot.
 
No, I remember that, I just kinda think that was all undone at the very end. It was all like "nope, never happened"
