Buffy article in the Guardian newspaper!!!

What is that mental person talking about? (Not you Al, the other one)

Why are they comparing Buffy to series like Gossip Girl and pseudo-reality tv? That just makes no sense. Since when was the Buffy demographic entirely made up of 14 year old girls?
 
Clearly NOT a fan of the show.

To writer: Watch the show, don't read about it, and THEN write an article. OK? Good
 
I got the article... Actually it´s a good thing... the girl crashed Gossip Girl xD

We can´t just destroy the article... it ends with "Perhaps to every TV generation there is born only one decent heroine, and we've had ours". This is a good thing.

I like it... makes me want to watch Buffy (if i wasnt already doing it xD)

Just because it ends with a rehash of a great line doesn't mean its a good article

Its not ONLY that but I do have that issue.

The 'journalist' obviously has issues with her writing style, its poorly written, almost as if to try and compete with her contemporaries she wrote the piece, pulled out her thesaurus and changed some words to try and make her sound better, somewhat intelligent.

Generally a 'journalist' will throw in occasional big words to say 'look, I am smart, I studied journalism at University, I have a right to write and you read' but this piece is, to me, obviously written by a novice.

I get WHAT she was trying to say, however thats not the point. As a Journalist she should be able to cut through the crap and write an interesting piece and be clear without being condescending and pretentious.

My issue is not with the sentiment as such, just that it looks like a mad fan has been given a soap box and the thing is, when you have people like this spouting in right wing papers(The Guardian is a right wing paper here in the UK) it makes us look like loonies.

I don't agree with this.

I don't believe she isn't a fan, in fact I think she really is, I would even wager she has spent time on forums writing fanatically.

Guardian a right-wing paper? Uh...nope. It falls more to the left side of the political ledger.
It´s not a good article cause sounds like a 15-yrs old girl writing in the high school newspaper, but I think the content is good "for us" cause say good things about the show we like.

Also think it´s weird to see it at The Guardian....

How is it "good 'for us'"?

It doesn't add anything to the Buffyverse, doesn't even suggest there should be more Buffy, just that it is now over and on top of that it looks like it was written by a mad fan which makes us all look like the deranged Trekkers that people think of when they think 'Star Trek Convention'.

Yes, but you're already a fan.

Looking at linoleum could make you want to watch Buffy.

This article doesn't portray a positive image outside of Buffydom. It even puts it in the same catagory as Reality TV, which is a dying medium!

This does nothing to further Buffydom, as I say, it just makes those who are looking at us and it as though we're crazy, deranged zealots.

For a fan this article is enjoyable, we can appreciate the sentiment of what she is saying but what's wrong with the article is that she doesn't actually say very much.

She tells people that Buffy is the best most awesome show ever but she doesn't back it up with any proof. Her article is as empty and hollow as she proclaims Gossip Girl and Reality Tv to be. There is no suggestion of episodes that people should watch or what merit could be gotten from them. It is like a rabid fan post on LJ.
 
Poor article i agree but i get where she's coming from. But she hasn't used any examples and if i wasn't a fan i wouldn't really know what she was jabbering on about! I lol-ed at the FX statement becuase i watch it on there to!
 
I love pretentious articles like that...as long as it's praising BTVS and bashing Gossip Girl (somewhat), it's good in my book...
 
I sort of get what she's trying to say here. But man, it's like reading a dictionary. What does riposte mean? And if youre trying to say that your more Joyce's age than Buffy's, one adjective should be more than enough. If I were one of her teachers at university (if she's been to one) I would fail ehr, just for her nasty writing style. Really.

And why don't they broadcast re-runs over here? ^^

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree!

I'm a journalist and I don't understand why you think the article is poorly written? I don't think she has used any words that are glaringly pretentious, they all seem to be justified?

I agree with her, there hasn't been anything on British TV since Buffy that has rivalled it. TV is more than happy catering for people who don't need to be enthralled by it. They are content with lazy programming because that makes them their money without anyone needing to scout out original creative thinkers like Wheddon. Thinkers they don't understand and with whom they find themselves in constant opposition.

She's making an excellent point and I think she made it very well.

Also The Guardian is a famously liberal paper, it's not right wing in the slightest!
