Assuming that the TV series hadn't ended with Season 7, where do you think that "Buffy" would have gone, as opposed to where the comic books have taken it?

I think if season 7 wasn't going to be the last one, it would have been very different. I don't think they would have destroyed Sunnydale or awakened all the potentials in the finale for starters.

But imagining that at the last minute, everyone decided a season 8 was going to happen right after Chosen was done... I can imagine it starting with a few episodes focusing on different people in different places. Like one with Buffy and Dawn, one with Xander, then Willow and Kennedy, Faith and Wood etc. Then after two - four episodes like that, have them reunite for a new (or old, they tend to be old) evil. Not sure where I'd have them all meet, maybe meet Giles in London, it works well for Angel and Faith.

I mentioned in another thread that a long time a go I had a season 8 planned where the awakening spell caused the demon essence that originally imbued the slayers to get pissy... or something like that. Can't remember much more than that though.

I think that if they went into season 7 knowing there would be a season 8 then it would have been a very different season. They might have stayed with the school/MoTW theme that they started the season off with. They could have reintroduced The First and built it up to be the big bad for s8, which probably would have ended the same with Chosen. They wouldn't have had to flood the house with potentials so quickly. Possibly no Willow/Kennedy, maybe in s8 though which might have worked better giving Willow more time to move on from Tara properly. Not sure what they would have done with Andrew, probably wouldn't have needed to add him in s7 and maybe they would have just forgot about him in s8. The Wood/Spike thing probably still would have happened. Not sure what would have been the "big bad" for the season then, it would have had to been something big in order to justify Willow bringing back Faith. That way we could have Faith in s8! I would have liked to see proper closure with Anya and Xander and have them just move on, also more time to develop Anya's character development after Selfless. Not sure what they would have done with Giles. Maybe he could have been the librarian again? I would have liked to seen a better central meeting place for the scoobies. So either back in the library, or Anya reopens the Magic Box, or some other new place. Basically there is a lot they could have done and reworked to make season 7 better, and maybe use s8 to devote to The First and the Potentials. Maybe they would have had a better story to tell by then, who knows. But I think that everything that happens in season 7 would work better over the course of two season (or get rid of at all).

I would have Buffy and her friends travel the world and experience human life and all that, with Faith making amends as the active slayer and maybe her and Giles training new slayers in Buffy's absence. I just feel like Buffy deserves such a break after everything she's been through.

I think that Caleb, in his own right, would have been an excellent Big Bad, especially if he had several (not the thousands that were in the cavern) ubervamps working for him. As for Wood, I've always thought that he was totally wasted the way that he was used. (that bloody dagger that he pulled out from under his coat probably gave me the idea in the first place) He could still have been the Slayer's son, seeking revenge on Spike, but he could also have been secretly in alliance with Caleb, a sort of wolf in sheep's clothing, giving Caleb advance warning as to Buffy's plans.
