buffy Bloopers

The thing I hate the most, and I always notice it, is when vampires are breathing. It's soooooo damn obvious. It's in almost every episode, too. I know that it's kind of hard not to show it, because the actors/actresses do need to breathe, but sometimes they do it so heavily. I hate noticing bloopers; for some reason it makes me made that there are so many mistakes.

IIRC the Watchers guide came up with an explanation, something to do with mimicing breathing to make the vampires feel less dead or foulling the air that is around them- both are implausible though

I've noticed that a number of times, and just think that the vampires like to pretend to breathe. 🙄

As Shimmer said, maybe to make them feel less dead. 😕
Just something you have to ignore I guess. But a scene you can't just put down to that, vampires can't really breathe, they don't actually have any breath, as stated by Angel in Prophecy Girl. But in Becoming, when Angelus is torturing Giles, he takes away his glasses, and then clearly breathes on them and wipes them, to clean the lenses. 😕 Can't really explain that, but you know what I mean, when you breathe on your glasses so you can properly clean them? So that's a mistake, right there. 🙂

There is an explanation in the Watcher's Guide for that.

"While [vampires] do not actually need to breathe- at least not in the sense that humans do, with the intake of oxygen- their lungs do perform a function that simulates breathing. One possibility is that this process fouls whatever oxygen they do take in. It seems likely that the false act of 'breathing' is somehow a comfort to them- and perhaps makes them feel less like the walking dead."

I thought it was a pretty plausible explanation. I mean the actors can't really help breathing... 😉

Perhaps the fouling of the air explanation is plausible but why would a demon need comfort, even if it did have a lot of the previous personality it is still soulless and evil.

Another explaination for vampires breathing is that it is a reflex action... they were so used to breathing when they were alive (obviously😉 ) that when they rise again, it is more of a habit than anything like concious thought (ie makes them 'feel' more alive) to go through the motions of breathing, just as it is natural to a vampire to be able to walk and talk... as that is what they did when they were alive.

Interesting sweetpea, breathing is still a subconsious thing like for humans- I can get behind that explanation- good thinking

Some of the bloopers weren't real bloopers. There was a question as to how Angel entered Giles' house in Passion - I know he was invited in (I believe) Surprise.

Okay--I do have a blooper. I was watching "Phases" the other night, and I noticed one involving Giles. It is the near the end with the last scene in the library. He is practicing with the traquilzer gun and he is peering through the telescopic sight. He has his glasses off. Buffy comes in and tells him what happened when she and Xander visited the funeral home. His glasses are still off. They are about to go patrolling for the werewolf when Willow busts in nearly out of breath. Suddenly, his glasses are ON! Caught to the next scene where Giles tells Willow to calm--down his glasses are off! Then, we turn to another angle as the three prepare to leave. Giles wraps the rifle strap around his arm--and his glasses are on!! Chalk it up to bad editing!

heh, straaange stuff... I'm going to have to watch the new season more carefully.. *gets out magnifying glass*
