Buffy Boards App?

Is there one?

I bring it up because I have been going to the website while on my phone for a long time now and recently the look and format changed (when I visit the website on my phone). It is plain and it no longer shows my updates/notifications and stuff like that. Has anyone else noticed that recently while visiting buffy boards on their phone? Or is everyone using an app? It sucks. The last few days I haven't been able to visit BB while out on the go.
 
Nothing has changed about the styles, so you might try using a different style on your phone. There's a "Mobile" style, & the "Clean" (unmodified from vBulletin default) style. I just use the regular board styles on my phone though.

We do have the Tapatalk app installed, at least for now.

It is on my list to try and create an app for BB, but for now, those are your options 🙂

Unrelated query, but you are always trying to do one thing or another, I am curious is to if you ever feel constrained by this, for the most part, antiquated (it kinda is innit?) bulletin board system.

As quick as technology improves and has improved it seems there could be much more you could do, yet having this (vb) as the backbone limits it? Or are there still pluses to this format that others overlook as they go to responsive layout with 'news type' posting.

Did not mean to sound like I was demeaning the forum, hope you dont take it that way. Just curious as to your thought about the mechanisms behind it... as you're veterany to it now.
 
Do you mean using vbulletin as opposed to another forum software? Or forum software in general?

If you have the same issue I've noticed... scroll to the very bottom of the page. At the bottom, on the left side, there is a link to go back to your usual theme.
The link is grey, small and hard to see. 🙂

Think it is the tapatalk theme that somehow automatically gets selected. It's neither the iPhone theme or the mobile theme anyway.
Guessing it's because of the recent upgrade. Not sure why but it seems the upgrade cleared out stuff on my portable devices. I had to change back the theme and log in again.

Strange that the TapaTalk theme (at least I think it's the TapaTalk theme) gets selected.
Don't think that happens when I get logged out otherwise. Then the usual default theme is used as you would expect.

Oh, and I think the link I mention before is on the right, not on the left that I wrote.

I changed the Mobile Style detection thing to the Mobile Style (it was on the default) so I don't know if that will help lol, or if we changed it away from the Mobile Style for a reason 😉

I don't think I feel constrained by the forum software. If I wanted to run a Facebook page or a Twitter site I would go do that. You can always build something on to a site, it doesn't always need to perfectly integrate with the board.

Forums are and aren't a dying breed. Forums have a lot more competition for people's online time than they did ten years ago, so I think sometimes it seems like they are dying more than they actually are. They serve a distinct purpose in many niches, that people can't get easily in other formats. They are useful, and I don't think using twitter or just a "comments" page is better. Just because there is a shift to just saying whatever the hell you want to in 10 seconds or less, doesn't mean that's better or that everybody wants it. I still want to discuss things in this type of format, and as long as I do and other people do I'll keep going.

People's online behavior has changed (not for the better for the most part) and the demographics have changed of who are online nowadays, so I think it's more challenging to make a forum a success. Especially because everything seems to be about acquiring "fame" and having "famous people" follow you or what have you than about having a solid community.

All in all, I still don't think there is a better way to have an online discussion with people with similar interests, unless maybe all your friends like all the same things you do.

Good points. I was thinking more of the technology changed and left bulletin boards behind. Never really thought about the consumer changing.

There is new bulletin board technology out there, but to be honest I think that's all in a practical sense cosmetic. (And updated vB is apiece of garbage so if we were to update it would be to another software, which brings a whole set of issues of its own). I don't think we're at a point (yet) where the technology is so past it that people don't "get" it. It's not like when you go back and look at listserv's or something (which I actually quite liked) where people would be like, "There must be a better way to do this." You're not sitting here like, "I have to click on a reply button instead of just thinking 'Post' in my mind? What old technology!" lol
 
LOL.. but you know what I mean.. everything is responsive and intergrated with twitter, etc. But you are right, it's more of the instant gratification (which I have no problem with nice delayed gratification) that is the difference. What is the new BB system?

Then I started to think.. ya know, tablets are slowly (or rapidly) replacing traditional computers. I wonder how much that plays into the situation as well, as portable medium tends to lend itself towards shorter responses
 
We do have twitter integration for tweeting links to threads 😉

Well, they are moving to things like Twitter/Facebook/Google+ logins, and more ajax features, things that are made to be viewed in a mobile environment. Less tables and more fluidity.

True, but I also think tablets make it a lot easier for people to post on the go, since phones are so tiny. I think we a more concise in general nowadays.

Tapatalk stopped being able to connect to Buffy-Boards as of a few days ago. Anyone know if there's a known issue with it?

It's not installed here now that we're on XenForo, because XF has responsive design built in and there are tons of security issue with having Tapatalk installed on the forum.

Ahh, thanks - was this announced anywhere? I thought I searched for 'tapatalk' in the forum and didn't see it mentioned.
