Buffy Boards' Favorite Non-Joss Whedon Television Shows

Flannen agrees: Alias and OC karma! Although they could be higher 😛

Yeah... that's why I hate picking lists, I always end up changing my mind!

Alias is low because it's fairly new on my radar; OC because the middle of the series was disappointing IMO. I love the characters throughout, but some of the mid-series stories were just blughh. I loved Taylor though, season 1 is at least in my top 5 of favorite TV seasons of all time, and most of season 2 is fairly awesome.

Yeah, the first 2 seasons of The O.C are the best. All of the characters are amazing. I love Sandy and Kirsten as much as I love Ryan and Seth. I always cry with Kirsten! 😛 And I pretend that the 4th season never happened, cos I hate it. Haha.

Have you seen all of Alias then? I just love it. But that may have a teeny tiny thing to do with Michael Vaughn. 😛 But in all seriousness, I loved every minute of it. The cliffhangers at the end of the seasons are astounding. I'm so glad I watched when it had finished and could watch them one after the other. If I had to wait between season 1 and 2, and then 2 and 3 I would have gone insane!

I can't remember if I've posted in here...I've skimmed the thread and don't think I have, but I'm going to go through it properly now!

Yep. I got the DVDs last Novemberish, watched them all by the end of January this year. I started watching them again and I'm almost up to season 2. It doesn't have quite the same effect the second time through, but I've still been pretty entertained and sucked into the show. Syd can be a little whiny and annoying, but overall a very cool show.

Oh and I know what you mean about having to wait... I'd have diiiiiiied. I remember back in the day before I got TV on DVD--watching 24 was insane! I kind of liked the wait, but it's nice to be able to just completely live in certain shows.

In no real order;
30 Rock, Veronica Mars, NewsRadio, Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, ER, Arrested Development, The X-Files, Spaced.

My love for 30 Rock knows no bounds.

Tueuse de Vampires
Tueuse de Vampires
X-Files karma :D
Ah, yes; the day "blurg" entered my vocabulary was a very great day. I resisted watching the show for some reason, but the first time I saw it (the first season was $15 at Circuit City during Black Friday) I fell in love. It brings out the stupid laughter. You know, when you just keep laughing for so long that you forget why you were laughing... then you stop to wonder, "why am I laughing?", you remember why, and you laugh some more.

1. Grey's Anatomy
2. Desperate Housewives
3. Lost
4. Glee (why has no one mentioned this yet? I've already fallen in love only after one episode)
5. Heroes
6. America's Next Top Model
7. Big Brother
8. Survivor
9. The Amazing Race
10. Project Runway

I had to split it up between scripted and reality, because I do love both equally. :]

1. Alias
2. One Tree Hill
3. Survivor
4. Roswell
5. My So Called Life
6. The Office

That's all I can really think of right now.

The Dresden Files (does anbody else wish it got another season?)
Battlestar Galactica (at least the first 3 seasons)
Veronica Mars (better than it should have been)
Twin Peaks

6. Charmed
7. 24
8. True Blood

10. Heroes(only the seasons 1 and2)

i want to add CSI (the original in Vegas) to my list, but for some reason the 'edit' button doesn't show on my original post, though it shows on this one.

This is tough, putting these in order of favourites. But anyway, here's my picks:

1. Friends
I had to give Friends my number one spot, because even after seeing (almost) every episode dozens of times over I can still sit down, pop a disc in the DVD player and really enjoy the episode. The writer's created some great one-liners in that show and I like that even though it's a sitcom (and they need to tell a story in only 30 minutes) I always felt like they did a good job at creating storylines that continued through the whole season, or in some cases series. Joss-verse shows excluded, it's definitely my fave!

2. Grey's Anatomy
So when this show first came out I couldn't bring myself to watch it, I had this preconcieved notion that there wouldn't be any substance to the show. Now I can't comment on the first few seasons, but I've watched for a little over a season now and I'm a huge fan. I really like the new characters/arcs/relationships that have come into play the last little while (Owen Hunt, especially). Can't wait for the season premiere 🙂

3. Law and Order: SVU
I had never watched a Law and Order show before this one, and to be honest I was a little uncomfortable with the idea of watching it at first (with the subject matter that it deals with, I wasn't sure how on earth it could be entertaining). But my girlfriend seemed to like it, so I gave it a chance and sure enough: I got hooked. I think it's great that a show dealing with crimes like this (for anyone who doesn't know, the SVU unit are the people who deal with sexually based offenses) can stay on the air this long. It really makes you aware that these things do happen and I think it's a very educating show; especially for women. More than anything though, I've always been very drawn in by the characters!

4. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
I don't watch this show as much as I used to (now that Grissom and Warrick are gone, my heart's just not into it 🙁), but I still really enjoy the reruns and it's nice to get intellectually involved in a show! It's a program that really keeps me on my toes; quirky in it's own little way!

5. CSI: NY
Now that CSI's gone by the wayside for me, I'm beginning to like this more and more. I like the cast more than I thought I would, and I like that the main characters are involved in some of the crimes themselves (like "Mac" and the cell phone thing, a few seasons back).

6. ER
A long-running show that I wish hadn't ended. No matter which characters they brought onto cast, this show could do no wrong. Plus, I think I'm a little bit in love with Doctor Carter 😉

7. The Listener
Most of you probably haven't heard about this, but it's about a Paramedic in Toronto who can hear people's thoughts. It's nice to see a television show and KNOW which streets and landmarks they're talking about, and it's not a storyline that I've seen before. Very canadian, very good-- if you have the chance to watch it I'd definitely recommend tuning in!

8. Dr. Phil
I have no reasoning for this, but I love the show. Don't judge me.

9. So You Think You Can Dance, Canada
Great talent, entertaining judges and some SERIOUSLY AMAZING routines in this show. I'm always amazed by the quality of dance that the contestants bring to the table, especially when they're always trying new genres. And if any of you ever caught a glimpse of season one's winner, Nico, doing a routine-- well I'm sure you can imagine why I like the show so much 😀

10. Reba
It's over now, but considering the star of the show was a country music singer, I thought it was AWESOME. Very entertaining, with a family dynamic that I hadn't seen on other sitcoms. Bless CMT for airing reruns!

I heartily approve of the Dr. Carter appreciation!
There are shows other than Joss Whedon ones?????? Ag!
Jk.

I like Bones, Monk (although not so much), The West Wing, Fringe...
Those are the shows I readily admit to watching.

But I have some guilty pleasures, too. The O.C. America's Next Top Model, and What Not to Wear...
Don't judge me! I have the decency to be embarrassed! 🙂
