Anybody else wanna hunt Buffy down and whack her in the nose for the way she treats Spike in FOOL FOR LOVE?
I mean, she wants answers, she goes to Spike, he works for beer and chicken wings, and on top of that, he gives her the TRUE stories, including all the embarrassing parts and not just the "I'm Such A Bad Ass" parts of the story.
He sat there and handed her things she could use to hurt him in an effort to give her the whole story....and WHAT does she do? Throw it back at him at the first opportunity!

I mean, HOW LUCKY does the girl need to be? She occasionally hangs out with a vampire who's killed two slayers and can do it without fear of him harming her. She has the perfect place to go for her answers. And yet, she has to act like that girl in Willy Wonka who is a spoiled brat with a nice sprinkle of Snooty Cordelia on top!

Every so often, I kinda wish he'd have gone ahead and shot her.....like today, for instance!
 
Well, she is talking to a murderer remember. Why'd she act all nice to him.
Spike would have loved to add Buffy to his list of Slayers killed.
 
i dont wanna hunt her down, i will admit she doesnt treat spike very nicely but at the same time he has been kinda like a stalker in previous episodes. although spike has a chip in his head to stop him hurting anyone he is still at the end of the day a vampire, and if he didnt have the chip then he would have been trying to kill buffy and not help her at all. In previous seasons he has been nothing but horrible trying to kil her (apart from season 2 when they team up against angel but that was only really to get dru) so really buffy owes spike nothing and he probably deserved what she did.
 
True.

But, that's like trapping an animal to use to in a science experiment and then taking the time to poke it with a stick just to make sure it's miserable.

She knew she was safe....he was technically helping her and didn't HAVE to be honest enough to tell her the embarrassing parts, she could have just walked away without being downright CRUEL.

Actually, a soul is completely different than the chip. A soul is the essence of humanity. It's what keeps Angel from being the soulless creature he is supposed to be. But the chip is just the equivalent of Spike being neutered...all the dog, but without the bite.

Buffy has every right to treat spike like he's a soulless creature. Because he is.
 
I didnt have a problem with how she treated him. She didnt have any real reason to treat him with that much respect anyway at this point. He only spent the past 3 years trying to kill her. She was already being nice enough with letting him live.
 
I have no problem with the way she 'treated him', heck, I wish she'd kept that up and I would never have had to see a spuffy sex scene or to try and have it erased from my mind 😉
granted she's not exactly a picture of respect, but these two have a history (at that point) of regarding each other with a thinly veiled hatred and complete lack of respect for each other, the fact that he is all chipped up, was NOT his choice and so I don't see why she should treat him any differently or give him respect as credit for that. It didn't make him a better person, it made him a controlled person. it's a mental prison, and we don't treat murderers with more respect just cause they are behind bars do we?
 
It's mostly the "I'm above you" line that she stole from Cecily. I think she could have easily just said, "Here's your money" and walked away.
I'm not saying she had to offer him more chicken wings or thank and tip him. But, she didn't have to take a old wound and rub salt in it.
He had been honest about how he felt when Cecily said it, there was no need to toss it back in his face after he had...in essence, helped her.

As far as prisoners go, if I needed to interview a prisoner for a report or a book and get information from them and they told me, honestly, what had gone on in their lives. I may not HUG them afterward or put them on my Christmas Card list, I'd probably just thank them and go. But, I wouldn't feel the need to take the most painful time in their lives and throw it back at them.
Joyce taught her better manners than that.

Chip or no chip, Spike didn't HAVE to help her. He could have lied and then run off and told everyone she was weak and had a big hole in her gut and was an easy kill.

I just can't think of a single instance where it's okay to be overtly cruel to someone who does you a favor or helps you with something.
 
I suppose Buffy didnt need to be that harsh to him.
I think she was just kinda harsh in general to him because she just couldnt admit to herself that she liked him, it was like a defence mechanism. But what was Spike trying to do at the end ofFFL, did he try to kiss her or bite her or something? I havent seen this since last year.
 
Okay, he does kind of do his stupid snarkiness about how "BAD" he is and how she'll die soon one of these days when she "wants it" and he'll slip in and be there.

Then he taunts her a bunch to punch him.

He kind of half leans in like he might kiss her and then she freaks so he leans/jumps again and talks about "dancing". Still, being his normal snarky self. Nothing really new other than the first kind of lean in.

I fail to see why she couldn't just punch him in the nose like she always does and walk away. I mean, in Buffy and Spike terms a punch in the nose is as good as a wave good-bye.
It's not like she didn't KNOW she was asking a soulless murderer for help at the beginning....one that sometimes had helped, but still a soulless murderer.
She could have easily just punched him in the nose, tossed his money at him and bounced on back home to check on Joyce.

No need to be cruel and all "holier than thou".

There's probably a reason that Buffy repeated the same line Cecily said. Joss would not have included that if there wasn't.

Also, Spike was "falling in love" with Buffy (hint, the title: "Fool for Love"). Therefore, he would have helped her whether or not she didn't provide chicken wings, OR pay for it. She was being civil by paying for the information. She DIDN'T have to.

Well, we don't REALLY know it was Joss and even if it was, they all liked to make Buffy appear to think she was better than other people all the time. Heck, she drops hints to Riley about being better than HIM.

Besides, she doesn't KNOW Spike is falling in love with her. WE do, but she doesn't. So, she had to give him some reason to help her. But, he didn't have to be honest. Nor did he have to not run and tell Harmony that she was wounded. Then he'd have gotten chicken, beer, money AND a dead Slayer!
 
Point is, he would tell Buffy the truth regardless if she was a bitch to him or if she was the nicest girl in the world to him. End of story.
 
HA! You've never been a woman on a first date huh?

First you got the part where they only tell you the stuff that make them look like bad asses.
They like to leave out the parts where they look like idiots, unless they think it makes you wanna "snuggle".

Besides, part of the theory falls apart here.

1.) SHE didn't know he liked her, so she should have been slightly more pleased to get an honest answer than a snarky one.
and
2.) If she doesn't have to be nice to him because he's a soulless killer and the chip means nothing, then him being in love with her should also mean nothing because either way, he's a murderer.
She went to him knowing he was a killer, so should have been at least as nice as she is to him when he's just hanging about being annoying.
Heck, she was NICER when he stole Riley's doctor and he almost had a heart attack! And then he was trying to get the chip out so that he could kill her!
Granted, she didn't buy him chicken wings, but he also didn't ask that night. She didn't have to make him cry...just a good punch in the nose.
 
It doesn't matter if she knew he loved her or not. To her, he's a soulless killer. Do you really think interrogators are nice to criminals when they want answers? No. And it's the same case here. She tells him she's above him, because she is.
 
Sure they are. Ever heard of good cop/bad cop?

When you watch the First 48 on A&E they don't bring in some guy and hurt their feelings. They lay out what they want the guy to know they have, they dangle nice threats of death penalties and stuff, sure.

But, if the guy just spills and tells everything he knows they don't turn around and beat him. In fact, lots of times he can get a deal!

That's nice. Well, nicer than rubbing salt in their wounds.

No. Don't recall that saying. But she did say peanut butter was better with marshmellow..

Point is, from Buffy's POV, she's not wrong.
 
Then Joyce needs to do a quick little update on how to be polite to people!

You don't ask people for help and then make them cry. It's just wrong. You don't have to be fake with them, but you can just pay them and go.
 
I think we forget that Buffy has reason to hate Spike (probably because we love him so much).

He tried to massacre her classmates, friends, their parents, and teachers on Parent-Teacher Night. He plotted to kill Buffy countless times. He tried to destroy the world twice in S2, almost getting Buffy and Angel killed with the Judge. He attacked Willow and Xander and locked them in the factory so Willow would do a love spell. He's attacked Buffy physically and emotionally (references to Angel in particular). He's crude...amusingly so for the viewers, but probably not if you're at the receiving end of it. Sure, he told those stories honestly. But then he made those suggestions at the end, and I don't blame Buffy for being pissed. Was saying "I'm above you" harsh? Of course. Was it harsher than any of the things Spike has done? I don't think so. He's neutered now, true. But that doesn't redeem him of the man(monster) he is beneath the chip.
