Cast members of UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer gave SCI FI Wire hints about where their characters will head in the upcoming seventh season, which starts in the fall. James Marsters (Spike), Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn) and Alyson Hannigan (Willow) offered the details after a recent panel on the show at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles.

Hannigan said in an interview that she thinks Willow's greatest challenge will be "winning the fans' love back" after turning evil at the end of the season. "They probably hate me now," she said. "I just hope they forgive my evilness in the last few episodes." Hannigan said Willow's addiction to magic will remain an issue for the character. "Oh yeah, once you go that far, don't you deal with it for the rest of your life?" she asked. After Tara's tragic death, will Willow begin dating again? "Oh dear, I hope not," Hannigan said. "She's got to have time to recover." Hannigan confirmed that she will travel to London to film scenes for the season premiere. When asked if those scenes included Willow's reconciliation with Giles, whom she tried to kill in the season finale, the actress was vague. "I don't know. Hmm. What makes you think that?"

Marsters told SCI FI Wire that Spike will be a vampire with a soul, not a human, as speculated. But he added that he doesn't know if Spike will turn out to be good or evil. "I could be unleashed as the big villain, or I could be the big goody two-shoes crackerjack boy," he said. "I have no idea." But Spike's attempted rape of Buffy at the end of last season will cause a rift between him and Dawn.

"It will not be easy for Spike to come back," Trachtenberg said in an interview. "Of course there is that relationship, that foundation in there, so there is something there, and I think he is the one that Dawn has connected to the most, because he's never treated her like a child. For once, she'll handle the situation in an adult way, but she won't let him get away with it." Trachtenberg added that Dawn may fight more, as she kicked some butt in the season finale. "I know in the season finale Dawn tried to fight a little more," Trachtenberg said. "If their plan is [to add more fighting], I'm definitely looking forward to it. I've been promised heels next year, because Dawn has been wearing sneakers for the past year. So I'll have to take lessons in fighting in heels, but it's definitely something that will be fun." Dawn will also face teen dating issues. "I've heard a couple of rumors here and there that Dawn will have a couple guys coming in and out, but I don't know what other relationships we'll be building. I think that this is the year that Dawn matures and really comes into her own. She spent last year leveling the ground, and now she's able to conduct herself in a way that she has seen her sister in her more mature days."

Any concerns of Willow departing next season have reassuringly been put to rest, thankfully. There'll also be the residing factor of last seasons *magic* metaphors and depression sessions, so i'm guessing much fun to be had there. Spikes future also seems to have unsurprisingly left us viewers guessing once again and Dawn, well actually by far the biggest downer for me at the moment. Seems to me that Joss and the "s1 outlook" has given Michelle's character the space towards becoming Buffy's plaster-cast from the past.

I mean it's understandable she has to mature somewhat, but Joss, please, throw her character a new angle or something? I swear, if she becomes this teenage pedal for every growing-girl cliche, i will not, will NOT be all too pleased. I put up with the incessant whines of aspect:baby of the group without throwing too much of an upheaval, now your giving me grow-up, black candy... yeah, thanks but not really my idea of impressive character development, especially from the man who can. Give her a new hobby, American Football, maybe a craving for cannibalism, lol i don't know... but another boyfriend, another human, ANOTHER Riley, piss off! 😀

Darn, I was actually kind of looking foward to seeing Spike trying to be human again, but I guess him still being a vampire is for the best. I hope he turns evil again 😀

Thanks for the news, Oz 🙂

Hmm that is interesting so definatly thank you for posting that 🙂 I'm curious as to how things are going to work out this next season. Everything is really a mystery at the moment it seems, but I hope that this next season will be a good one. So far from what I've heard though it sounds like it will be interesting. The whole Dawn thing though I'd have to agree with Oz in hoping that they do something different with her character instead of just making her more of a poster type teen. She needs to do something on the show otherwise I think it kinda pulls everything else down because she has no reason to really be there. So her helping with the fighting would be a good place to start.

Thank goodness Spike is not human. I hated that everybody was saying that. And yes, please do something new with Dawn. I never liked her, I still don't think I do, but please don't give me more reason to hate her. If Joss can make every other character brillant, he must have something up his sleave for Dawn. Heels? Fighting in heels? Come on.::thumb:: That is always so unrealistic. Just let her wear black and get it over with.🙄

Thanks again Oz, for another update.🙂

Wow thanks so much for posting that. I'm really eager to see what's going to happen next season. 😀 I too was starting to think that maybe Spike was going to be human but I hope that they can play the vampire with a soul thing in a different and orginial way then they did with Angel. ^_~ Although I really like the friendship between Spike and Dawn so I'd like to see that stay.

And having a reason for Dawn to be around would be a really *good* thing. Haha Michelle is really tough about the black and heels thing apparently. LOL ohhh well I hope they don't turn the Dawn character into a teeny cliche or something because that would be bad......
but another boyfriend, another human, ANOTHER Riley, piss off!

o_o Ohhh God let's not even *think* like that!

Once again, trusty Oz has provided another interesting update! I'm really wondering what Joss has in store for Spike since he's not going to be human. I just can't wait! And PLEASE, make Dawn do something new. I don't care. Just make her stop whining and being rather useless.

lol...why cant we have another human????i dont get it....lol....im not smart enough somebody please explain!!!!

lol i have to agree with dawn though....hopefully shell do more fighting...well she could have been helpful queen except no one let her do anything...shed ask and everyone would be so overprotective so i can sorta see why she whines and crys alot....

Oh-no...then whats going to happen to spike??????

thankz oz for the infoz

Winning the fans back because of "evil Willow?" Alayson sweetie, you never lost us. Though, we still wouldn't mind seeing more of Willow in black...

I'm glad Willow isnt leaving lol. OH, and ALyson your fans never actually left. YOur Tara and Willow fans did. I am one of them, but I am staying lol. ANyway!!! =)

Now theres an idea. Inspiration from my trusted fivebyfive - dawn could become a goth-type, interested in heavy metal and the such. How about that for different? Maybe she could get caught up in drugs and become a real rebel - i think a bit of well-earned good-ol' fashioned rebellion is due for her.
Thanks, Oz - you're keeping up the great reporting! Apart from, shock, i caught you using another unlike-Oz phrase! *gasps* 1st, we had "crap", and now, "piss off" - what is this world coming too if Oz doesnt even have the vocab on hand to display his true feelings *shakes head in sadness*

😉

PS - Ill back you all up: alyson, hunni, ive never stopped being a fan! You rock - evil or good!

😀

Wow! Sounds interesting! I'm looking foward to seeing Willow go to England and stay with Giles. It should be fun to see what his England home looks like. Is he staying there then forever? Like, after Willow leaves, is he ever going to come back to Sunnydale?
I hope Dawn's character gets more exciting. The whole fighting thing I'm not too sure about yet but you never know...! I think she should stay away from the heels! Her sneakers suit her just fine. She could help out with the fighting though in Season 7, that may be interesting.
As for Willow, I don't think we are going to hate her, I mean everyone makes mistakes (not just as big as hera). I think it will just take some time to get use to her again and then things will be fine. Is she ever going to do magic again though, to help out the Scoobies when they need it?
Spike on the other hand, is going to be a tough one to get used to. Next season, I hope he comes back, in a nicer way. He left so upset and set on his goals at getting back at Buffy but she should really be the one who wants to get back at him. He did go after her and he should be looking for her to apologize, not to get even with her (even though we know that will never happen). Oh well, whatever happens in Season 7 will probably be good. Thanks again Oz for the information

🙂

I do think the willow-hits-the-uk-thing will be cool! 😉
Do you to like my dawn idea above, people? Lol.
I think, BUFFY1686 (just my logical thoughts based on the facts that i know and my instinct as a buffy fanatic), that giles will always make guest appearances. Maybe not that often, but he was such a big part of buffys like, he still is, in regard to slaying, and just as a person, father-figure and friend, that for him to not come back again ever is unrealistic and, well, bad.

😉

Sammy, You never cease to amaze me with your, erm... interesting ideas. LOL. I'm just kidding. 🙂 Goth Dawn would be pretty funny! And I agree that some REAL rebellion is well overdue. None of that wimpy stuff like "Oh, look. I'm so bad-ass, that I'm not eating my vegetables! I'm bad to the bone!" 😀

Lol, thank you, thank you *bows* - actually, fivebyfive made fun of my ideas too . . . hmm . . . *goes off to think*
Lol, yes, some well-earned 'gothic' rebellion due! AND she doesnt have to eat her veggetables if she doesnt want too!
