Premiere Magazine recently did their "Top 50 of All Time" list.

Cary Grant came out on top. He is great. Very much of his time, of the golden era of Hollywood. Yet also, timeless in a way.

Personally, I think Emma Caulfield seems to be the most "Classic Hollywood". You could drop her in an old screwball comedy opposite Grant or Jimmy Stewart and she'd fit right in. Partly it's the character she played in the 'verse. But just the rapid fire delivery, wittiness...

Sarah Michelle, maybe at #2. Also a screwball quality. She and Caulfield have kind of a Katharine Hepburn quality: fiesty, sly, quick delivery.

Eliza Dushku, maybe a femme fatale, like Lauren Bacall. Not that much presence or gravitas, but a similar attitude. Isn't "5x5" retro slang? Thought I read that.

Alyson Hannigan: for some reason, I can't place her in Classic Hollywood. She seems very modern, of her time to me. Maybe you guys have some thoughts on that.

Who in the 'verse seems the most Classic Hollywood to you? What stars from old films might you pair them up with?
 
I could see Alexis Denisof as Charlie Allnut in The African Queen (later, darker Wesley period - not bumbling buffoon Wes 🙂) or possibly in other Bogart roles.

James Marsters...a bit harder but possibly in 50s Brando or James Dean flicks.

Tony Head...Ealing comedies, or even early Bond, or in Cary Grant rom-com roles...
 
You know, Wesley in his dark period seems to be channeling Bogey or some other noir personality. Obviously, "Angel" has lots of ties to noir, with the whole LA detective thing.

Spike definitely wants to be James Dean. Angel too. Heh.


I loved it when Cordi started experimenting with noir-speak...

Beautiful. Loved Faith's slang too cause it was not typical teen-speak. Kind of her own neo-noir, tough girl thing.
 
You know who reminds me of Jimmy Stewart? Marc Blucas. very "everyman" with that lovable, respectable quality (I love Jimmy Stewart)

An Alyson Hannigan, with those massivce eyes and her great work in Hush would be a classic Silent actress

Yes. Aly would have been a great silent movie actress, even Joss comments on it.
Aww man! Anchovy, there was just a documentary on PBS about Mary Pickford. Yes! Aly's a silent star. All about facial expression.
 
Lauren's still as feisty as ever....
