The Federal Communications Commission rejected an indecency complaint lodged against UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer by a conservative watchdog group, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The complaint filed by the Parent Television Council against an episode of Buffy was dismissed in a 5-0 vote because the commission found the show didn't violate its indecency regulations, the trade paper reported.

The PTC, run by L. Brent Bozell, complained to the commission about the April 22, 2003, episode of Buffy, in which the characters Spike and Buffy fight before having sex, according to the order. "The commission noted that there was no nudity and there was no evidence that the activity depicted was dwelled upon or was used to pander, titillate or shock the audience," the commission said in a release.

They complain about Smashed but not the other sexploits that go on during S6, odd people. Anyway as I've always said to the PTC (not that I speak to them), if you dont want your children to watch these things dont let them. Besides, theres age ratings for a reason.

I agree, good for them for dismissing it. Not enough parental accountability these days is my feeling.

I agree with both above opinions. Great that the complaint was dismissed and parents should actually take care of their children. The TV is not a babysitter.

I did a search under the PTC and found their site, please keep in mind that everyone is entitled to their opinion even though we don't agree with it and it seems absurd to us. So with that I ask that you don't abuse this site.

I did a search under Buffy and found the following items

Another interesting one that is too long to post is Buffy v Sabrina, its half way down so best bet is do use the find function on your pc to get to it on this link

The second entry in the Buffy v Sabrina argument is very well thought out and written, and its good to know that there are some voices of reason within that site.

Thanks for posting that site Faith, but grrr!!! These people think that we are all mindless imbeciles that do everything that we see on tv. They drive me right up the wall. Anything to move forward their own personal agendas of bigotry. The world would be a great place if everyone could hold hands and sing songs, but that is not the way it works and the media represents that. At least Buffy had moral undertones. :mad39: These people make me so angry. :mad39:

The second link is much more my style. The original letter and the reply are both very well thought out, and very true. They show that there are other people with common sense left out there.

urgh! How on eart can they expect their complaint to be successful with SOO many fans out there??? people would be mad to do something to realy upset us lol

Hmmm...really gotta agree with the general feeling here...Parents...if you don't want your kids to watch something...don't let them...

No probs 🙂 It was just good to know that there are some parents out there that do think like we do, and appreciate the themes of the show. Those arguments came from someone who knows what they are talking about. They were not written by someone who has just watched one or two episodes which is often the case with parents in these cases. And because they are not a child/teen/young adult the parents on that site will take their views more seriously that they would ours. Which is not something I agree on because no matter what your age you should be listened to, but in their eyes 'they know better.'

Wow those were incredible...I especially liked the second letter (Buffy vs. Sabrina) on the secnod link. It's nice to see parents out there appreciating the messages in a show like Buffy. Thanks for that link!!! 🙂

I was actually thinking the other day it's odd some of the things they got away with on that show. I saw the cut scene from smashed in which she and him do a wee bit more than what made it to tv.... I could see that getting a lil bit of trouble but I think other shows have done much worse.
