CEO Jeff Bezos announces the deal -- which will include 24, Arrested Development, The X-Files, Ally McBeal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Wonder Years -- on Amazon's site.
Amazon has inked a deal with Fox to stream movies and TV shows on its Amazon Prime service.

CEO Jeff Bezos announced the news on Amazon's website with a letter to subscribers:

"I have big news for Amazon Prime members "“ we've just signed a deal with FOX to add a broad selection of movies and TV shows to our unlimited instant streaming service later this fall. The new additions from the FOX library include 24, Arrested Development, The X-Files, Ally McBeal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and "“ available on digital video for the first time "“ The Wonder Years. We now have deals with CBS, NBCUniversal, Sony, and Warner Bros, and adding FOX will bring the total to more than 11,000 movies and TV shows available for unlimited instant streaming."

"Since launching earlier this year, we have now doubled the number of titles available in Prime instant videos, and there's still more to come. Prime membership remains $79 a year, and of course features our unlimited free two-day shipping on millions of products. Prime is one of the best values anywhere.

"Prime instant videos can be played on more than 300 HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes."

The news comes as competitor Netflix announces new deals with DreamWorks and Discovery.

Good timing for this, as a lot of Netflix members are reducing their membership packages due to the increase in price.
 
I saw this when I logged into Amazon yesterday! I was super excited... I have been thinking of getting rid of Netflix due to their price hikes.

I might consider it if I had a device that streamed Amazon. I have a Blu-Ray & a Wii that stream Netflix, so it's so convenient, because I hate watching my stuff on my computer. I'd love to have a Blu-Ray that streamed Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix! Then I'd get rid of the streaming option for Netflix & just keep it for DVDs. Actually, I'd prefer to get rid of my cable altogether and go with Roku devices, but my husband is afraid of missing out on NFL games. @@ If he could just keep NFL Network & ESPN, he'd be OK with it.

My BluRay player will stream Amazon's content... I also have the Wii upstairs for the kids and a lot of the stuff they love is on Netflix, which is why I haven't stopped my membership yet. 🙁
 
Ooo, fun! I wish they were streaming AtS, too, though. We cancelled our Netflix, but still have the Roku box. I've been putting Thomas the Engine movies on there from Amazon for my son - yay for Prime membership!!
