Buffy coming to TeenNick

The network is for teens, so I don't see any problem with Buffy being aired on it. Buffy is centered around teens, and it's not really directed towards adults as much. I'm 15, and I've seen every episode of Buffy, and I don't think it's innapropriate to show most of the show to 12-17 year olds. But then agian, I'm not a parent or anything.
But anyway, I'm happy that our younger generation is being given the opportunity to watch such a awsome show

Er, I wonder if they're going to edit anything? I don't figure they can show all of it, can they? (Spuffy anyone?)
 
I don't think some of the episodes of the show are really appropriate for kids under 17.... I know a lot of younger kids watch TeenNick for shows like iCarly and Victorious, so I hope they at least show BtVS in a later timeslot so some of these younger kids are already in bed by the time it airs.
But yay for airing on a channel that gets such a big following... It's sure to get a lot more fans for the franchise! 🙂

Agree!! Season 6 is certainly not appropriate, or Woods and Faith "getting freaky" or "Where the Wild Thing Are"

That's exactly what I was thinking! And what about Twillow? I don't see TeenNick as being super-progressive in LBGT issues!

That's my concern too: are that many teens actually watching TeenNick? I know it's named that, but I would think it is geared more for preteens. I mean, my own kids (7 & 10) watch iCarly, Victorious, and True Jackson VP. I do think that Degrassi is more mature though, right? (I haven't seen it myself)

Just because Buffy is a show about a teenager doesn't mean the subject matter is always kid-appropriate. BtVS is not Twilight. I myself pick & choose which Buffy/Angel eps/scenes my kids can watch.

Totally, 100% agree. My kids love iCarly, and they're allowed to watch BtVS and "Angel" but there are certain eps they can't watch, or at least not all the way through. "Degrassi" is pretty mature for teens, too, but it's not as dirty as BtVS is in parts...

Are you kidding? Degrassi is WAY more graphic than Buffy. I mean Degrassi's version of rape vs Buffy's... Wow.
Yeah I would say Degrassi is similar in content to Buffy if we're talking Buffy pre-season 4ish.

I think this is great. I am letting my 11 year olds watch with me. We watch an episode a night, starting from the beginning, from the DVDs. It's been really quality bonding time for us and has sparked some really interesting conversations.

That's really interesting! How far are you guys? How do you plan to approach season 6 and some of the other more mature themes? Would you let them watch Angel? I'm a little bit more wary of ATS since it has more mature/darker themes. They have only seen a few ATS eps. Of course, my kids are younger than yours.
 
I must have been about 10 or 11 when I watched all of Buffy and it didn't scar me for life. Most of it is fine really, I can only think of a couple of scenes (like in Smashed) that would be a bit dodgy. A lot of the stuff with Willow and Tara is implied as well, so younger people won't necessarily notice it that much (I didn't notice it myself). In my opinion though, once you get to about 14 most teenagers will have seen that kind of thing on TV or on the internet before anyway.

I didn't know Nick had a teen channel though, that's pretty cool.
 
I saw this and jumped for joy. I am SOOOOO excited about this. This is going to be the "kid, Buffy is COOL" thing that I've been hoping for. I might even be able to get my little cousin (9 years old) to watch with me!!!!!

I think that the show is fine for teen Nick. I was a 8 year old watching R rated movies and I don't understand it when people say some content is "too mature" for the younger audiences. But that's just me. I don't think any of the content of Buffy is more mature than the content of Degrassi that I've seen. And I watched Degrassi religiously for the first several seasons (I think it was 5ish where I stopped). I see no issue with this at all. I'm just super excited!

Well, I think it depends on the kid. I know my kids well enough to know what things might bother/disturb them and what won't. Language, for example, doesn't really bother my kids. Not that I want them saying or hearing the F-word all the time for example, but my husband has a sailor's mouth LOL, so they have heard stuff. The violence & scary stuff & overall "darkness" might be disturbing though. For example, they've never seen Hush. Some of Angel's actions on ATS would be difficult for a child/preteen to understand (sex with Darla, killing the soldier-guy in Conviction, killing Drogyn etc). Even my 10-year old doesn't quite "get" that Angel lost his soul because he had sex with Buffy, I've just framed it so far that he falls in love with Buffy & loses his soul because the curse has the "perfect happiness" clause.

As far as Twillow, they've seen OMWF many, many times, the 10 year old understands that they're "gay" but probably not more than that. Both of them think any type of kissing is "gross" at this point (although the 10-year old might be covering up his curiosity LOL, he's not really open in talking about girls, etc).

I know if I came in and saw my (hypothetical) child watching Where the Wild Things Are, the Spuffy scenes in Gone, Doublemeat Palace, Smashed and a handful of other scenes/episodes on a channel for "teenagers", I would be furious; especially if I had never watched the show before. And those are just the sex scenes. There are other scenes like when Willow is high on magic or quotes about Willow's "girlfriend's pierced tounge" that just don't seem appropriate for a channel aimed at minors.

That's why I said some scenes. Overall though it's not that bad. The drugs thing isn't that terrible either imo, it shows that 'drugs' are bad and so not recommended. If it was showing drug taking in a good light then I'd find that a bit dodgy, but it didn't.

I am speaking from my experience of watching Buffy as a teenager though. My parents had no say over what I watched after I was about 9 or 10 and at 11 everyone in my secondary school would routinely show videos of much worse things to the entire class. So my values may be a bit more liberal because of that. Personally though I wouldn't have a problem if my teenage cousins were watching Buffy, though like I said some scenes would be problematic for the younger ones. I'm sure they'll censor the worst parts of it.

But this is all a bit off topic.
 
It doesn't seem like that big of deal, guessing they'll cut the 'bad' bits like due when they show btvs and angel on syfy during the day x
 
I would say it is fine with me. They show Degrassi on that network and it is highly inappropriate at times to me just as much as Buffy. They talk about all kind of sexual matters so the content on Buffy isn't to bad in my eyes. I watched Buffy at this age or a little after.

Same here I grew up on Degrassi and Horror movies it was never to inappropriate. Zobo you have missed some of the stuff they have done on the newer seasons lol talk about awkward to watch.

I used to watch Buffy before middle school so whatever that age was I don't even remember I know that is sad 😛

Yeah I'm with you, KJ.... This is the type of stuff that I make my kids leave the room for or cover their ears...
