Buffy coming to TeenNick

Short answer: no. While I am thrilled to see buffy still on air, I wish it was on a different network. I think it'll have to be edited as scenes like those you mentioned are not appropriate for someone under 15-ish. Teen nick is geared towards younger pre-teens and teens imo. Much of buffy is not. It's geared towards older teens and younger adults, especially the latter seasons. While I do let my 11 year old step son watch with me, it's always with the remote in hand, ready to hit that fast forward button. It's not appropriate for kids in alot of ways. And angel is that much less appropriate.

What worries me is that there's alot of parents that don't monitor what their kids watch. They are likely to think "oh it's on a kids channel, so it's fine" without any thought. And there's alot of issues in buffy that a kid's gonna have questions about, with no one to explain. Makes me a little uneasy.

I know i'd be pissed if my kid under 14 saw any of the graphic spuffy scenes.

I haven't seen angel yet, so I'll watch it and then decide if it's ok for them. I'm really late to the buffy party... I only watched all episodes for the first time recently... and my kids would laugh at how buffy obsessed I was... I have to say it's nice for me that they decided buffy is actually cool, even if mom does like it.

I think it sounds like great discussion topics to have with 11 year olds. Maybe my oldest & I will have to do a big re-watch with me in a year or two. At this point they have only seen selected episodes. My boys are 4, 7, & 10. The 4-year old obviously doesn't have the attention span for it lol (although he will ask me if I'm watching "Buppy" or Angel). If you do any of the episode discussion threads you can see the older 2's comments interspered with mine if they were watching with me. The middle one is my big Buffy fan- he loves Oz & Spike (he declares that he's a Spoz even though he doesn't know what that might mean to some people), and he adores OMWF, knows all the songs by heart, & often acts out Spike's part in RIP. Sigh, I think I have created a monster!

Yeah, we get Degrassi and most American teen shows like Hellcats and Vampire Diaries on a channel called MuchMusic. Some also air on The WB (but the WB isn't on basic cable)

Young kids will not be awake to see Buffy. I just looked it is started May 31st at 10 PM. Most of the youngsters will be in bed by then, right? They got school the next morning and depending on the parenting their mom will prolly tell em to shut the TV off sometime before 10. There is a preview video here:

I think you're right. Most younger kids are asleep before 10/11. Or at least not watching TV.
I see nothing wrong with Buffy being aired on Teen Nick. At that the time slot they will be given, all little pre teens should be in bed anyways.
 
Yep, that timeslot seems appropriate. Most younger kids are asleep by then, although I have to say that during the summer our bedtimes are very relaxed. I still wonder if they'll omit some scenes.

I'm re-watchig Degrassi season 2 on netflix right now. They have an actual full rape of a 14 year old 9th grader in season 2 episode 6. Seeing Red really should be no problem. That's "attempted rape" (and that's debated in the fandom by some) and it's at least with a 21 year old. Of course this rape in this episode wasn't seen on screen or as graphic, but it was obvious full on rape with a 14 year old.

That is why i have no problem with Buffy being on Teen Nick.
Wow I haven't let my 10-year old see something like Seeing Red nor do I plan on it very soon.

I like the idea of Buffy being aired anywhere, but I think it's great that it will be on Teen Nick. When the show originally aired (in the US), it was on a network that had programming geared towards teens/young adults, which was the WB. It had shows like Dawson's Creek, etc... Sure, Buffy is dark and all but I think it will do fine on Teen Nick.

Also, as much as I love iCarly and whatever else might be on that network, I think a little "classic" television might throw a little culture at the new generation. Just my thought 🙂

I am excited for this. I think 10pm is late enough. Also, for all we know, they approved seasons 1-3 (I can't think of anything too inappropriate) and they'll just play those. It's a possibility.

I hope this shows the Twilight generation what a good vampire story is.

I think it's great. Buffy's a pretty good role model, most of the time.

Ultimately, it's up to the parents to monitor what their children watch. If they don't like something, it's their job, not the network's, to make sure it's not seen by their child.

I'm loving the fact that it's airing so many episodes a week! I hope it stays that way.. I have convinced 3 people so far to watch the show for the first time!! These people should've seen the show, really, since they're all in their mid to late 20s, but for whatever reason they haven't!
 
Buffy reruns air at 5pm weekdays in Canada.

I don't understand why people think the show is to graphic. There is way worse on TV at that time of the day anways...people are being to sensitive. Everything in BtVS happens for a reason, sex isn't done for the sake of sex, it's done because it's necessary for the story. People need to communicate with their kids and everything will be fine, the idea of parents sheltering their kids confuses me beyond belief because when they go to school their friends are going to try to get them to do worse (smoking, etc.), and if you don't help them understand right from wrong they're just going to get in a lot worse trouble.

Covering their eyes isn't going to help them at all...
