Buffy Crossover [spoilers for issues #16+]

Very cool. I never actually read Fray. I don't know if I ever will. I hear good things about it but I am not a comic person at all. But this still seems really great, interesting.

Maybe the original scythe (the one Buffy used) was somehow lost, for instance in that "final battle" they talked about in the Frey comics, the one that banished all magic from this dimension. Surely in a battle so important, the it would have been used. Afterward, sometime before Frey's time, it was either restored or duplicated, which might explain why the demon had it to give to Frey. The new scythe might be slightly different because whoever made it had an incomplete description of the weapon, so it wouldn't be an exact duplicate of the original.

It does appear to be suggested the slayer had the scythe in the final battle.

Think I worked out the differences in the scthes. In relation to the colours, because if you look at when Buffy gets it out of her cabinet or whatever (in issue 4), it's full red.. no silver edges. But when she turns it over on the other side it does have silver.. so seems to me it's red on one side and not on the other. And this makes sense when you see Fray holding it.

The scythe looks weird in the battle shot.. could be.

And N4H, I think that's just a standard axe, the blade is different to the M? and end is flat, no stake attached. Unless that was before they planned how the M? would look in Fray?

Here's a little info from Scott Allie on the Fray thing...

Buffy’s bed games aren’t the only big news coming from the Buffyverse these days. Allie also confirmed fan favorite from the future Melaka Fray would be joining the fray in issue #16 for a four-issue arc written by Whedon. As the slayer’s scythe played a central role in the seventh and final television season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in 2001, Whedon penned an eight-issue miniseries starring the character for Dark Horse called “Joss Whedon’s Fray.”

“That one I knew about pretty much since the beginning,” said Allie. “We knew about that from really, really early on that eventually that would happen and Joss would write it. And that we would bring [‘Fray’ artist] Karl [Moline] back to draw it. Since the minute ‘Season 8’ started and fans got a glimpse of what it was basically about, the diehard Buffy fans were all asking when is Fray going to get into it. They knew that somehow Fray would come into it because of what Twilight is hinting at and what the ‘Fray’ series hinted at in terms of Buffy’s fate, so people wondered if that was coming and it was really difficult to keep out mouths shut about that.”

In issue #10, Buffy demands a demon named Tichajt to tell her what the arrival of Twilight – “Season 8’s” Big Bad – means, to which he replies: “The death of magic.”

In “Fray,” it is revealed that sometime in the 21st century, an apocalyptic battle between good and battle occurs which wipes out all demons and magicks, although it is hinted that a lone slayer may have survived.

Jo Chen returns for covers on the series with issue #16 and Moline has already drawn the first issue and is nearly finished with the second part of the arc.

“It (the arc) sews up continuity to some degree,” said Allie. “It definitely tells people that the events in ‘Fray’ that happen in the future is Buffy’s future, most likely. This isn’t just an alternate universe. Fray is a character in the future and now the two of them are going to come together, one way or another and that means she is very much a part of the world that Buffy exists in and is currently creating.”

Allie said from the minute Dark Horse finished “Fray,” the creative team always talked about doing a sequel. “And this crossover, doesn’t rule that out or make that any less necessary,” Allie warned. “I still really want to do that. And Karl wants to do it. And Joss wants to do it. But Joss is busier than ever, right now. So who knows? Keeping ‘Season 8’ going is a priority.”

I'm still hoping for Fray Volume 2. The way Scott talks about it, it IS a real possibility. I'm guessing that maybe by introducing her in the Buffy comics first, they want to draw more attention to the character.

Sorry for the doublepost, but I felt I just had to share this tiny bit of info. On the IDW forum, Brian Lynch just denied that the Buffy/Fray crossover has anything to do with the Future Angel and Future Spike we saw in After the Fall recently.

I can't wait for the crossover but I swear up and down the ANGEL stuff has nothing to do with it whatsoever. That said, the cover in Wizard, with Buffy and Fray, is AWESOME.

I truly don't want to disappoint you, I'm telling you it has nothing to do with it. ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL is very self-contained, it doesn't bleed over into the BUFFY comic and vice-versa. I am not trying to deceive or surprise here, I am just trying to ensure you guys don't get your hopes up.

Nope, he said that recently on the IDW board in response to seeing people commenting on Jo Chen's cover for issue 16 and the possibility of Future Angel and Future Spike making appearances in it.

I think maybe Scott Allie has just made it clear in an interview. They do appear to be planning to explain those things that don't make sense when you try to connect Chosen to Fray.

CMix: I've heard that a story arc in Season Eight also ties in with the Fray miniseries from a couple years ago? Something about "the death of magic"? Can you tell us a bit about that?

SA: Joss's next writing stint on Season Eight is on issues #16-19, and features a crossover with Fray, which involves time travel. As we saw in Fray, a couple years ago, something happens, sometime in our future, where a Slayer and her mystical allies do something.

Then later there are no more Slayers called for hundreds of years, and there's basically no magic in the world. The Fray series also introduced the scythe, which later popped up in the TV show, and now inSeason Eight.

Many of those connections will become more clear in the new arc.

I haven't read Fray so feel free to shoot me down if this is an extremely stupid question. But, how is Spike part of the Fray future as it were? If all demons and magics were erased in the final battle that means he would have been too. Assuming he hadn't shansued or anything before hand?

Yeah, this is gonna rock. I also like how they are taking the story to NYC. I like the change of scenery so far in the comics. They really are doing things they couldn't do on the show. Scotland, Tokyo, NYC, not just southern California.

Also note how everyone on the MySpace blog is speculating that Dawn is pregnant. Why does she have to be pregnant? I'd say it's more along the lines of her giant-sized Aunt Flo paying her a visit. Not trying to be tacky or anything, but from a woman's perspective, that's what I immediately thought. I mean, cuz it sucks as a normal sized female, imagine how much worse it feels as a giant sized one.

Or, she could have food poisoning.
