Buffy DVD's released again

I dont think the book was ever an offical complete collection that FOX released was it?
 
From what I've seen they've had: 1) The "book" style release, 2) the slim-sets (cardboard box with 3 slim cases), 3) the super-slim shell cases (regular sized DVD case with all 6 DVDs crammed in, which seems to be the new industry standard), 4) the Chosen Collection, and 5) the upcoming release.

The fold-out style looks great but they're a bit of a pain--I didn't have these sets for Buffy (I only have the Chosen Collection) but I have season 1-4 of "24" in this type of release. Great production values but getting discs out is a bit cumbersome. I personally like the super-slim sets for ease of getting the discs you want--the only part of this that I dislike is that there's not much of an episode guide. I like that it's the new standard, at least for FOX, because it's a space-saver.

Honestly though, my favorite favorite format is now on Netflix. For one, it keeps track of which episode I'm on automatically, so I don't need to refer to a book to remember (bad memory, this one) and I don't have to fuss around with discs. I barely touch my DVDs anymore actually, although I'm not getting rid of them any time soon.
 
Menus and Bonus Features

Does anyone know if the bonus features changed at all between the original "book type" Buffy box sets and "the Chosen Collection"? or if the menus are different at all? I agree with some of you that said they'll pick up the newest one regardless but It would be nice to know ahead of time. I would even pick up the Chosen collection if it was substantially different.
I just looked at the pics for the new boxset on Amazon and when I saw a pic of 2 of the boxsets open for seasons 1 and 2, they were the exact same dvd cover art that is on my original fold out "book type" dvds that I bought between 2001 and 2004. if its simply repackaged bullshit then that's really crappy!

The difference between the 'book' set and the 'Chosen' set is an extra disk. Few special features and stuff, but nothing that's really that grand. When I owned the Chosen collection I only watched them like...once. Other than that, yes, it is just a repack of the old DVDs. Good thing about it, though, is it takes up MUCH less space, and it's really pretty. Oh, and there's a note from Joss in the Chosen collection, as well. The episode booklet that comes along with it is really cool. Honestly, if only just BECAUSE of the packaging, I would buy this. Also, much easier to move with and such than SEVEN dvd sets. 12, if you have Angel. I used to have both of the Angel and Buffy box sets and having them side by side on my shelf...*drool* It was a BEAUTIFUL thing.

From what I can see and have seen of this new one on Amazon and such, there is nothing different. It doesn't even have the extra disc, all it is is a repack of the standard DVDs that most of you already have. They've done SO many repacks of them, it is NUTS.
 
The only buffy related I will buy again (in terms of episodes on discs) is blu-rays.
But I doubt it will ever happen. Would be great though!!
 
ugh what now

i'm getting really annoyed at all the different packagings of the series. i've got half seasons, full seasons, single cases in plastic covers, one single cover for the entire season, flip-open book cases...there's no order to it. i'm thinking i might just re-buy everything to have it look the same and like it actually belongs together.
maybe that was their devilish plan all along!!

As far as i can tell this new repacking does NOT include the extra bonus disc or the letter from joss, and apparently they are stopping (or may have already stopped, since its been so rare to find) production of the Chosen Collection. Which makes me love mine even more, because now it's becoming something of a collector's item.

I heard from a fan, who seemed to know his stuff, that because of they way they edited the show, they would have to take the dailies/clips/film and re-do the editing from scratch to make blu ray DVDs.

No clue if that''s true.
 
I just got all the individual sets last month so I'm not gonna bother with this set. I like the original covers anyways.

Also, I think it's pointless to buy this even if it does have extra bonus features if you already have all the seasons. $200 for special features? No thank you. They should like release a Buffy DVD Set of all the (plus new) bonus features and stuff. Now THAT is something I'd buy.

And Buffy on blu-ray...dare I hope?
 
I just bought the box set, so I think I am good. Personally - I would have preferred specific character collections like the Spike and Giles featured set like "Best Monsters & Demons" or a "Romance Collection" - They could have done a special with discussions with the writers and teachers from the university courses. There are a lot of things they could offer instead of recycling the series.

Buying another entire set is seems like just wasting money - why not do some special collections on Blu-Ray.

There is it's called the Slayer Collection, you have four episodes on each with interviews with the cast member and writers

Well- what planet have I been living on? Thanks for the info - after I get over feeling totally foolish I will go look them up at amazon.
 
Well I won't bother with this either, seen as I just re-purchased the new edition DVDs (except 4, which is a long story lol). Unless there's something outstanding about the new ones, I won't buy.
