(I'm hoping this thread has found its correct home - if not could someone taxi me to where it should be please?)

Way back in the mists of time (okay, ten years or so) I decided to invest in Buffy on VHS tapes and like many people I'm now regretting my "but it will be worth something" in the years to come greedy thoughts and am now replacing the seasons on DVD. My problem is this - should I go for the nice book design or just go with the plastic fantastic versions?

I've bought Season 7 in the PF version but there were some serious dubbing problems and I was hoping that folks could clear up some doubts I have concerning these dubbing problems. Are they more prevalent on the PF versions?

so agree. I still have season 1 of BTVS on vhs :)
I have the book-ish ones 🙂
they were very very expensive when they first came out, and now you can get them for very cheap now -_-

The Chosen collection has a bonus disc with extra features. I think it's the US region only (region 1?), but you could get it for like 80 bucks on ebay these days.

I too would recommend the Chosen collection. It's pricey but worth it. Very nicely packaged with tons of cool extras.

Here it is: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Collectors-discs/dp/B000AQ68RI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1260138335&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Collector's Set (40 discs): Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, Anthony Stewart Head, James Marsters, David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, Amber Benson, Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, Emma Caulfield, Joss Whedon: Movies TV[/ame]

The Chosen Collection is cool, but if you want easy access to the discs you'll have to get something to put them into. Since the season 'folders' are stacked vertically, you have to remove the top ones to get to the lower ones. Doesn't take much time but it's a little annoying. Aesthetically, it's awesome.

I have seen the version that's in a tiny DVD case; the size of a regular single disc case, but it has all 6 discs in it. I'd kind of like to have those, or at least buy a generic one, because I like to take mine with me when I go anywhere.

Sorry to butt in here, but I'd heard that the Chosen collection wasn't really any better than the individual seasons because there aren't that many extras. Is that wrong? I'm looking at replacing my DVDs because I've . . . uh . . . watched them so much that they're starting to wear out. *is a complete nerd* I thought about the Chosen collection, but I also considered just replacing the individual seasons with the slim sets as they become unbearably hard to watch due to skippage and freezage.

Advice?

I had the bookish ones and sold them for the sleaker skinnier ones. They take up less space and I find that the discs stay put where as in the book ones they would constantly fall out and therefore get scratched and what not. So in short, I say go the steamlined way.

Quick question -- I'm really interested in commentary. What Buffy DVDs come with commentary?

I'm guessing (from the one season I have and from my Angel DVD's) that there are several commentaries per season, usually with the writer / director joined on occasion by one of the cast members.
Thanks for all the replies :cheering:

The Chosen set looks great but I'm afraid my DVD players are Region 2 only. HMV are doing a nice little deal with £11.99 per Season or Amazon UK the whole set for just under £60...though the greedy monster inside me would like the book ones...time to do some serious adult thinking...: popcorn:

Crikey! 60 quid for the complete set is a very good deal on Amazon UK. I bought the collector's version a few years ago when it was first released and it was more than double that
The complete Angel set is also good value at well less than half what I paid 🙂

Take it from a Whedon freak. If you're not going for my number one choice, the Chosen Collection...go with the book designs.

Well, after many hours of eating popcorn I've finally built up enough sugar fuelled energy to start replenishing my Buffy VHS with.......the book design collections. Thanks again to you all for your suggestions!:cake:
