Buffy Emoji App - Thoughts?!

Hey,
I've decided to jump into something I've wanted to do and given myself excuses...as you do! I'm finally starting up my own app business and what better app to start with than something I love...Buffy! I'm creating a Buffy emoji app, what do you guys think of the idea and what would you guys like to see?!

Those emoji apps are popular right now, so now is the time for it.

I don't know much about licensing but would you be able to use Buffy characters without permission?

It sounds like a great idea, but brink is right, if you want to use the Buffy characters, you'll need permission, especially if you want to make a profitable business out of it.

Maybe start with a standard emoji app, and maybe you could add a 'Buffy' licensed version later, once you have the necessary permission and legal stuff in place? 🙂

Thanks for the replies and advice guys! Would I have to license it even if the app itself is not called BTVS and the emojis are cartoon that reference to the Buffy character. Like the artwork you have on the website but even more cartoon than that? If anyone reading this has insight or could advise also that would be great!

Probably not, but I'm no legal eagle. Copyright is a funny thing. I know that some companies take the infringement of their intellectual property very seriously, others not so much. But yeah, if it was just called "Fun Emojis" or something and happened to contain a blonde chick with her redheaded friend and a brunette guy, I doubt that'd be an issue.

I mean, our CafePress store got taken down for things like shirts that said "It must be bunnies" with a cartoon bunny on it. So it's hard to predict.

I can think of instances where I'd use all of those...I'm still thinking

Depends on how many you want to make. What I am doing now is thinking one general pool and which images would sum up something I wanted to convey. But I think you could easily go for an app with each major character, then probably a Buffy minor characters app and an Angel minor characters app, and one with mixed images of general BTVS images.

Personally, I would probably use a general app, and a Spike app the most.
