Even though I've always been a bigger Buffy fan than an Angel fan, I have to say that "Not Fade Away" was a much better last episode. I'll admit, like a lot of other people, my initial reaction was WTF when it just kind of cut out before that major battle. Nonetheless, sometimes endings you have to think about for a little while and draw real conclusions about their meanings are the best kind of endings. The ending said a lot about what Angel was as a series. The odds were against them and Angel wouldn't get his reward (the Shanshu) but he kept fighting the good fight anyway. Because that's what a champion does. No, it wasn't complete closure but it definitely let the viewer draw their own conclusion about what happened. Maybe all four of them got killed by that mob of demons. Maybe somehow, the Fang Gang bested them. Maybe Angel and Spike realized they were about to die and started making out with each other, only to have the demons disappear suddenly and then there was just awkwardness.

But the ending aside, NFA is just a fantastic episode. The idea of the gang living their last days was very good. Enjoyed the Buffy reference in Spike's last day. Of course Lorne sang. And Angel met up with his son in one of only two Connor appearences where he wasn't annoying. Harmony betraying Angel was good because she is a vampire. The only reason she hadn't beforehand is because she's extremely inept at everything, including evil. Wesley's death was heartbreaking and Alexis and Amy were great in that scene. Honestly, the only bad thing I can say about the episode is that Lorne killing Lindsey seemed unneccessary.
 
I liked the ending of Buffy best by far. It was more of a high-note becuase they won (=D)
And we know fer sure who gets killed.

Whereas the ending of Angel left us hanging...Angel and Spike and Illyria go off to fight hordes of demons and we don't know if they survive or not.
 
Ahh i remeber watching Not Fade Away for the first time i was kinda dissapointed and didnt awtch that episode for months but i went back to it again, and again the episode grows on you so much after you watch it for a second time it goes from slightly dissapointing to another one of those moments were you just want to scream JOSS WHEDON YOU ARE A GENIUS i love the episode so much, plus the Angel comics which continue it very good i mean it was such a good set up to start the comics one of the reason i like the angel comics better, so far anyway i mean the buffy comics are really good its just...............oh would you look how deep the whole is now
 
Although I liked both episodes, Not Fade Away wins for me, for that episode was epic.
Many of the con arguments for NFA in the opening post I actualy conceived as positive, the Lorne thing for example.
Throughout all the show he was always someone who was not especially bad (although he helped demons out (like, back in the days where he read people while they were singing in his bar), but not completely 'good' (in the way of batling evil like the rest of AI) either; he was just a guy who liked entertainment and tried to get along with everyone. That's why I thought it was appropriate for him not to join the rest of the gang at the end in the alley for the final fight. He never was the kind who fought (in various episodes he was always the 'stay in' guy, watching Connor etc.), so why should he suddenly decide to participate in a battle the gang was likely NOT to win? Of course you could say 'to show some respect an loyalty to Angel and the gang, but I think that was what Lindsey's dead was about for me: Lorne, the guy who always kept himself out of the direct battle, suddenly kills someone. And I think that is all that could be expected of him.
Something similar can be said for the whole Harmony/Hamilton thing: Harmony was still a vampire, and evil creature, the soulless type, so making her the traitor in the end gave the whole vampire myth more credibility. In the whole of Buffy and Angel it was always stressed that vampires are just soulless, evil creatures, demons, not people. And that's just as true for Harmony as for any other vampire. Any vampire who ever showed some sort of humane behaviour had a reason for it: Angel (and later Spike) had his soul that kept him from mindless killing, Spike had the chip that restrained him so he couldn't kill anyway, and Harmony in her 'good' time had job security and stuff she didn't want to loose by killing. At the end of AtS, however, that whole job security thing was gone: Harmony knew that Angel wanted to take W&H on, and she knew that with that he would be out of W&H either way anyway, and with him his whole no-killing policy. So why should she have stayed 'good'? Like Angel says, it's not in her nature.
Also, I think the no-closure thing was a good idea. Buffy already won 'her' battle, with the Hellmouth being closed and everything, so what kind of verse would that be if the same had happened on Angel? It's like in real life, not everything works that smoothly.
 
I liked 'Chosen' more even though I felt the writers were sitting on so much potential [pardon the pun] with the First Evil. They could've made it so much better. I wanted the first to gain coporeal form and really give Buffy a run for her money.

I also disliked all the time wasted on the ongoing 'will she be with Spike or Angel?' saga. They could've at least come to a decision rather than wasting precious time with more circles.

I liked the closure though which we didn't get in Angel. Though I found the Angel episode to still be good in its own right.
 
I liked the ending of Buffy better but not by far. For the majority of the pros and cons I agree with Buhbi. I'm not unhappy that Wesley died, I thought it was a good end for him and he didn't feel he had much to live for. At least in death he was reminded of what he once lived for. I really didn't like the death of Lindsay. I know he flip flopped but I really believed he could be good and I hated that Angel had him killed. If nothing else I agree with Lindsay that Angel should be the one to do it if it has to be done.

My only other complaint with NFA is that Spike doesn't even mention Buffy, nor does Angel. Angel i understand because he has a son and that wins out. I get why Joss wouldn't want it because it's the finale of Angel and it shouldn't be about Buffy, but Angel comes back in the finale of Buffy so you'd think one of them would mention her. Especially Spike because he didn't have any real closure and no one (not even a non-spuffy) could believe that Spike wouldn't be thinking about her anymore.

I have no real complaints for Chosen, that's probably why I like it better. Maybe it would have been nice for a Spuffy kiss before she left, but things go the way they go, lol.
 
Chosen vs Not Fade Away: Which Finale was Better??

personally i thought not fade away was bizar (mind my spelling)but buffys finbale i was bloody blown away the music was epic and the action was brilliant and when she said ;i want you to het out of my face true action lol,nothing really to say about angel finale only to say that flip was amzinggg lol

i was shocked but i wasnt crying like a baby like chosen when buffy got stabbed lol i liked the flip when angel did lolzz

I think Not Fade Away was the better finale. It was funny at times, and then devistatingly sad. It absolutely ripped my heart out, and I actually really liked the sort of... cliff-hanger ending. I mean, really... how can you end something like that? I also felt it was kind of an "F-YOU" to the network Powers that Be... seeing as they cut the series short, much to the fan's protests.

As far as "Chosen" is concerned, I think it affected me more because it was the end of Buffy. I'd watched it from the beginning til the end, faithfully and lovingly. And it was so hard to see it end. Though, personally, I found that "The Gift" was a much better ending. It just felt more... complete. I love the last two seasons of buffy, but the ending of season five marked a huge shift for me, so I think it is an appropriate ending.
 
I enjoyed both endings in different ways, but for my money, Chosen was much better.

In Not Fade Away, there were moments of lightness and heartbreaking sadness and I was drawn in by both aspects. However, you can't end a series with a cliffhanger; you just can't do it.

Chosen had both humor and sadness as well, but it provided the viewer with a sense of closure. I felt like the series was ready to end and this brought the story full circle.

Also, whoever said that the Gift was a great series ending was spot on.
 
I say chosen. becuase it had more action than NFA
I love the bit in chosen when Buffy get up and say "i want you to get out of my face" and that song came on 🙁 it put a tear in my eye , it still does 😀 JUST BRILIANT 🙂 NFA was okay but not better then chosen , When i watched NFA the first time , when it ended i was like is that it 🙁 But buffy ending i was crying because Buffy ended 🙁 I was bovered when angel ened 🙂 i watched angel when buffy ened so i watched angel season 1 l to 5 I think Buffy alot better i mine alot better my score for the two endings

Personally I think Chosen was better. Even though I liked more things in NFA, I think Buffy's finale was better. Probably the fact that Buffy's was a more elaborated ending as well as how Joss put a closure to many of the story lines and characters. Of course, with the series we love we always want much more, so we're always going to be feeling that many things were not said and so on, but I honestly think that Buffy's finale wrapped up very well in comparison to Angel's; in NFA even though they tried and give us the entire picture it didn't really do it for me, plus I thought of it as a very open finale, more full of questions than of answers.
 
Chosen for me. NFA was ok but not a classic at all. Wasn't liking Black Thorn they spoiled it so NFA didn't do it for me. Chosens great though, everything about it. Except from Anya dying 🙁 and kennedy surviving 🙁
